The 'Ford Squad Presents: ' Radio Unfriendly' - 6th February
The 'Ford Squad Presents: 'Radio Unfriendly'
6th February @ The Shrewsbury Arms - 7:30pm Onwards
£3.50 / 2.50 NUS
The ‘ford squad return in 2009 with ‘Radio Unfriendly’, and a whole a heap of interesting music of a high quality. Sophie’s Pigeons from Manchester will be playing gauche, exuberant off kilter indie-folk music. A flamboyant band with a great sense of humour that often use children’s toys to create foot stomping rhythms, Sophie’s Pigeons have been touring hard over the last year or so and have released records on Manchester’s underground Red Deer Recordings. MausKramp will be performing and those who know and love their music will be looking forward to hearing their new material. A self-described ‘bad tempered rock n’ roll disco’ that now boast a new member on guitar. Would you believe they don’t have a drummer and it’s intentional? An intriguing band by the name of Hot Bone will be in their own words ‘turning against all which has the stale narrator’ and wearing curious masks. Hot Bone exude an intensity that seems to go beyond their limitations as a two piece, very much a word of mouth recommended underground concern they have supported Papier Tigre, Nissenen Mondai and These Are Powers. Also bringing home the bacon we have ‘We Rock Like Girls Don’t’, these girls have supported The Killers, The Cribs, headlined club NME in Nottingham and Glasgow and had Radio 1 airplay, been bigged up by Zane Lowe, Jo Whiley and Alan McGee and they have also had cracking reviews in Kerrang! They are loud, violent and brash and cite The Jesus & Mary Chain, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Sonic Youth as influences, their live performance should be pretty intense we hope! Hello Big World return with their charming low key pop songs sung acoustically, gorgeous melodies and a unique take on the world at large. They claim boldly ‘we are cool’ and they are. As always the wayward genius of Trent Vale Poet fills his slot like no one else can and providing the intervening music will be Mr Andrew C Salt ensuring that the noise continues between the acts.

Ben always sells choc so she knows about that - Ben informed me that he will be checking with Debs about the cocktails, hence our use of the word 'possibly'.

Deb was surprised at the whole thing, not Mr. Popple. Either she forgot it was happening, or as I said above, someone forgot to tell her again.
The artist formerly known as Coobeastie.

I will be there (presuming I still have some money left then) - I will be the student-y looking one with the out-of-date NUS card, big smile and puppy-dog eyes.

I was born at Stafford Hospital before it was famous.
