I would a thousand times recommend the Hollybush, fantastic beer garden in the summer, and so cosy in the winter! Food is amazing, it looks a little small on the outside but I have never struggled to find a seat!
There is a lovely walk that goes from the farm at becon hill, over the hill, through hopton and to salt, with the reward of a pint when you get to the hollybush!

Love this place, go all the time, recommend to anyone. It really is one of the best places to eat around Stafford.

We had our work Christmas lunch at the Holly Bush last week and it went down very well with everyone. Shame I was driving as they had one two good real ales on as well.

Will use this as i'm always popping in the Hollybush (Power5) for a pint and food, keep up the good work.

Hollybush isn't on Twitter right, any plans on that?

EDIT: just read it again, wine?, any other offer on, perhaps a free pint, half even, free starter for those that ain't massive fans of wine?

Choice is king!

Me and the Mrs used to frequent the Hollybush regularly up until about a year ago when we last went. We both felt that the standard had tailed off somewhat. The food was pretty ordinary and bland - the Greek Lamb dish which is usually fabulous was fatty and a bit rubbery, kind of as if it was actually cooked the day before and not sold so they just re-heated it. The chips were squashy and not all that warm. Given the really high standards it had before we both said we wouldn't rush back as there are now places as good if not better in and around Stafford.

Having the little one now they don't really cater that well (or at all) for pushchairs as the place is too cramped and small. As I say haven't been for 12 months or more. I think its a tad overrated and perhaps rests on its reputation a bit much

Cant believe I missed this! I was at the Hollybush last night – with my loyalty card!
Had the goats cheese and red onion tart, was very nice but VERY sweet, a bit bizarre having a sweet main.

Returned this evening from a meal at the Hollybush. Food was superb, very generous portions, obviously homemade. Service was great too. We were in there for a few hours and it went from busy to quiet to jam packed but still managed to remain cosy and warm by the fireplace. Had to really drag ourselves away!

Will definitely be returning and would recommend to anyone who enjoys proper pub food and drink in a cosy, homely pub.

As per usual there is a lot of food for vegetarians here. I despair of the choice we are given in restaurants.

I hate to admit it but I tend to agree on the quality front. I think it can depend on the time of day - post Sunday lunch sometimes feels like you're getting the warmed-up left-overs on the veg front. They used to boast good quality local meats. The mixed grill used to be huge and exceptional quality but this didn't live up to expectations last time around.

However, it's in a very pleasant location which is particularly pleasant to visit during the summer. I'm always prepared to give it another try but I hope the owners 'keep trying' and don't let the quality slip.

In order to maintain a price point when overall costs are rising there has to be a compromise . In better times the price point could rise as the market allows but in hard times the price point becomes critical to customer behaviour. Portion size or produce quality usually suffer in order to keep books balanced and the business viable

This week's cycle-out was to the Holly Bush at Salt - very pleasantly surprised at the price and the quality - and the best Guinness that I've had round here for a while..

There is a sign there now that says that they can't accept wheelchairs or pushchairs inside the building, due to 'fire regulations'.

I've just been required to attend the Holly Bush. I had the steak and ale pie, which was excellent. The place was seething, though - Friday evening would not have been my own choice and I did feel vindicated in taking this position.

I would suggest that you avoid the table near the kitchen door, as there's some bloke in the kitchen who's been to the Gordon Ramsay School of Shouting and it did get more than a bit tedious...

Today's cycle-out was another Holly Bush event - I had the Cajun Beef Wrap, which was rather substantial and very tasty, followed by a syrup pudding and a tremendous high-speed descent of Sandon Bank.
