Jobs at Brighthouse

Brighthouse is the modern equivalent of Kays and Littlewoods catalogues.

You pay bit by bit and pay more for the privilege.

I thought that too, til I saw their prices. Before interest a TV they had in their window was already double what Amazon sell it for. Then you add the 29.9% over 3 years and you actually pay 3x the amazon price.

You wouldn't buy from there unless you were struggling with money, which makes fleecing them even worse. Of course they should just put up with second hand stuff like we all used to (and I still do!), but unfortunately everyone seems to think they deserve brand new poor quality crap nowadays.

I suppose nobody forces you to buy there, but you only would out of desperation. I couldn't work for them though, I'd be slipping Hot UK Deals flyers into their pockets and telling them to go think about it!

Time for this weeks 'Shoes has assburgers' post...

Who cares what you're doing, if you need a job and one you can do is presented to you then I feel it is your moral obligation to take that job, unless you have another means of supporting yourself which does not come from the public purse.

You must have to be crazy to shop at brighthouse, surely if you can afford only £20 a week, then you can save up for a couple of weeks and buy a sofa from the local rag for £40, or ebay, Katherine House Hospice etc. - lots of avenues to furniture without buying brand new. Hell, the mrs and I could afford to get a sofa from the never ending DFS sale, but we're still sat on 45 year old furniture we got third hand from her family because there is nothing wrong with it.

Brighthouse is a business, they offer you a product at a price and with a set of terms. What they do not do is hold a gun to your head. If you wish to enter into a contract with them, that is your business, and a decision which you must make yourself. I certainly do not think they are unethical or immoral - hell, if I could get away with selling normal stuff at 250% of it's market value I would. If you're only ripping off people who should know better then what's the problem?

Are they on commission?

My problem is that if I can tell someone doesn't need something, I won't try to sell it them. When I was working in the PC shop I would never try to sell a better PC than someone needed for example, and once I'd worked out someones requirements I'd try to get them the best deal for what they actually require. I don't like ripping people off, especially if they are just plain dumb. I guess I'm the polar opposite of a double glazing salesman.

This is why I work for someone else, I'm not mercenary enough to become rich on my own!

I agree with Shoes, Brighthouse is a company, all they're thinking about is profit not the customer.
A job is a job and if you need one then you should be applying for everything going, thats why I posted it here.

At the end of the day a job is a job. Better than sitting on your arse and scrounging off the state.
A quick look on the website reveals this type of thing is common:
Cash price / amount of credit
£999.13

Number of weeks
156

Optional Service Cover per week
£4.97

Weekly rate
£9.22

Total payment
£1438.32

Weekly rate inc. Optional Service Cover
£14.19

Representative
29.9 % APR

Total payable inc. Optional Service Cover
£2213.64

Its just taking advantage of people and yes you can argue people shouldn't be so silly, but unfortunately there is a lot of pressure on people to have a certain lifestyle these days.
To be honest I thought the APR was going to be much worse that 29.9 so it could be worse. Speaking of which those pay day loan companies make my p*ss boil. They make brighthouse look good.
I'd be interested to know if everyone gets the 29.9% or if most folk fail that and get offered 49.9%. Also on the website it says they will price match....

Accepted, but if you have paid tax for nearly thirty years, I think you are entitled to a bit of gardening leave!:tumbleweed: It ain't exactly 'scrounging', more a pot you have already paid into, are temporarily getting somat out of it, before, hopefully, paying in again! Of course depending on your partners income, you might only get Job Seekers Allowance for 6 months from the start of your claim, so that may be quite an insentive to 'get on your bike', stop being a 'scrounger', and find work, PDQ, preferably before you even make a f*%$!+g claim, IMHO of course :ohno:! And grumpystaffordguy you've nicked my monikor, I AM THE GRUMPY ONE!:crossarms: At least you are from the best end of town! Holmcroft, and ST16 ! though I am temporarily burdened with an inferior post code!:lorks:

I've come up with a great way to get scroungers working.

Every day I see a crime being commited at least once, from using a mobile while driving to running a red light and of course speeding. What if we gave the doleys a camera and asked them to film everything one day a week. They can then hand the videos in with a list of times when the offences were commited, allowing fines to be processed. Give them a quota to meet to be allowed their dole.

Bingo, self sustaining unemployed population.

It's true pay day loans are expensive but what's the alternative? My bank will charge me £20 for exceeding my overdraft limit, & £20 for every day the 'informal overdraft' is increased. If I were to run out of money a week before i get paid, then a pay day loan will work out quite a bit cheaper.

Yeah in hindsight scrounging wasn't quite the right word. Your quite right if you have paid your taxes and then find yourself needing assistance in the future then fair enough.

Unfortunately, last August I was put out of work because my boss decided he had had enough of working and had to sign on. I was entitled to the massive amount of £67.50 a week Job Seekers Allowance despite paying tax and NI for 29 years. It didn't even cover my food bill for a week.

You only get lots of benefits if you have never worked and have no intention of working. Or at least that is how it appeared to me.
