ugh, I was feeling smug because I don't drive and have no need to drive, until I realised I have an important journey to make on Sunday...

Does anyone know if there is a diesel black market?

Look on the bright side, all the embarrassing questions about Cameron wining and dining his party donors can now be ignored while we concentrate on the fuel non-crisis.

As a non-driver thats how I feel about fuel ;)
But you can get to work without eating a pie!! Lets be sensible here....some people travel to work - hixon last bus home 5.30pm! market drayton - im not aware of any buses or trains going there...okay maybe you could hike to the nearest station and then trek across - or what about if you work in outer sutton coldfield? train to sutton town, bus out! then another bus from there to where your going!
Not everyone rolls out of bed and into work! has familiy living next door and not everybody lives alone to get up and leave house at 5am!!
Being the only one here to bring in the bread, I go where the work is.........and it certainly aint round here!!

I can get to work without using fuel, because I made a conscious decision to work near my house. I'd earn loads more in Birmingham, but I decided I don't like commuting anymore. Sure I can't afford things like foreign holidays, but I think I'm happier getting home at a reasonable hour.

Anyway, the whole thing is yet again smoke and mirrors. Look over here, its a pie tax! Cruel evil Tories ******* over the poor again, rich people don't eat at greggs etc. etc. Oh noes, the may or may not be a fuel drivers strike that wont happen for at least a week after they actually tell us about it (which hasn't happened), everybody panic buy! Please don't ask embarrassing questions about party donations and favours for mates on the way out....

EDIT: Fuel sales up 45% on Tuesday, despite absolutely no change in the amount of fuel hitting the forecourts. Genius, outrage all round and a pre-emptive strike against the nasty unions despite there not actually being an issue at all.

How on earth is someone supposed to make a conciensious descion to work in the town they live in? if someone is looking for work etc, if they limit themselves to "the town they live in" doesnt that narrow their chances?..........its not all about rich/poor..high or low wages......its about earning enough to be able to pay your way and provide and having to go where the work is!!!

I used to work out of town, I took a job in town instead. Of course it narrowed my chances, it pays less for a start, but like I said that is a decision I made. I don't like commuting, and I sure don't want to spend 2 hours a day doing it anymore.

There are many, many people who do not drive, yet still manage easily enough. I know someone who works in Wolverhampton that uses the bus, I know lots of people who come to work via train. Cars aren't as essential as everyone makes out, you can live without them. They make things easier for sure, but things are rarely impossible without them. I am 36 this year and have never had a car, my partner is a year older and also never had one. Somehow we survive.

The more I think about it, the more I see people swapping towns for work. People coming to work in Stafford from Burton for example, while others are living in Stafford then travelling to Burton for work. Doesn't make sense, I'd move house or job. Its not so much about money as free time.

You can usually get a 20 hour contract in a retail place, but no higher as they prefer part time workers. I believe lidl were hiring recently, someone posted about it here.

Lucky for me - I drive our All Electric Car Peugeot iOn , therefore no panic buying on my part, just plug in, charge and off I go. :dance:Not that there is any need to panic buy. Everything we want is always there on demand and the thought of not having it and being so highly publicised is causing unnecessary panic. Its the 'Stock Pile at Christmas Syndrome'. Shops are closed for one day, bread and milk will be there again tomorrow.

Sadly this country (as many others) would be on its knees without fuel; hence why the military is being drafted in to assist (if needed).

Dont think i would stand much of a chance in retail, as im not in retail! Lots of retail jobs in stafford.........lots of people who work or trained in retail in stafford..............so i think i dont stand much of a chance in that lol - also if you look the jobs are mainly, under 16 hrs - cleaning, pub, cafe, retail - thats so the employers dont have to pay as much NI conts.....not much good for me though, i need full time...got a house to run a child to feed...........spose i could always find myself a husband and force him to work all hours and days lol..............on the other hand naw, can do without the grief haha

I work in birmingham near the airport, I do have a car but dont use it to commute, it takes me a cycle ride, a train and a bus to get to work and a bus, 3 trains and a cycle ride to get back. I would happily get back in the car if the convaluted version wasnt cheaper than the car.

Even those that don't drive will be effected. More or less everything that you buy in this Country is moved by diesel consuming truck and that includes the food that you buy from your local shops or supermarket & so I don't think anyone driver or otherwise can "feel smug"

Isn't it a coincidence that the Government openly insights a fuel panic just at the end of the financial year when if we have another quarter of negative growth we will technically be back in recession. A nice way of bumping up the tax reciepts for them and hopefully heading that one off.....Same old Tories.....
