Maybe that could be a business venture in the making...... a stafford beer bus tour starting on the north end of town, possibly at Slaters brewery and then ending up in town followed by a nice curry. The beer bus in Cannock and Wolves makes a roaring trade and those pubs are not a patch on the ones we currently have in stafford
Stone do the real Ale trail as part of their Food & Drink festival. Travelling on a mini bus you visit a selection of the areas pubs and sampling a pint of real ale in each establishment , you have to book your place on the bus and that is the only up front cost, what you spend on the night is up to you . The pubs love it as the event is organised for traditionally quite mid week nights when they welcome the trade. I dont see why this couldnt work in Stafford

went in the R&C for the 1st time ever last week, it was really nice - didnt even mind going outside to the loo (up the stairs to the toilets not to wee wee in the beer garden) Landlady & landlord seem friendly and you can take dogs in - will deffo go again.

If you'd gone to Lambe's, by Ballybrophy station, back when Julia and Statia had it, then you would have found that only the ladies were allowed the use of the internal facilities - the chaps had the full use of the field out the back, though..

As far as I an aware the couple that were there last week were the bar manager and his wife, she in general doesn't work here but was helping out as landlord on holiday. The regular girl behind the bar has started putting us off a little bit though we try to get served by someone we know is going to be happy to serve us notate it seem like a chore. Other than this a beautiful pub and great beer.

Good point you make there LeeA , We sometimes get fixated on town centre pubs. Stafford has plenty of good out of town watering holes to visit . Has anyone else done the North End stagger after watching the Rangers . Rangers Club, Joiners , Kings arms,Tap and Spile , Princess Royal , Hop pole and the 4 crosses .
My friends and I did this without the impetus of a Rangers game the other week and had a crackin day. Thought the Princess Royal was a great place and we've frequented the Hop Pole on a number of occasions before. The pubs up that end of town I think attract an unwanted reputation and also in the case of the Kings Arms are quite hidden away but they're well worth a visit imo

Also, the Metropolitan bar on the Weston Road is a fantastic pub
I did glance at it the other night, whilst checking on the Prince of Wales's staus, and did notice how much better the place looked - back in the old Gate days it was often regarded as a bit of a dive..

Ive got friends down from 'ooop North' this weekend. Rather than take them around the town centre fleshpots I have decided to treat them to the North End stagger . Starting somewhere like the Tap and ending up in the Railway. Its going to be messy :)

We went into Ye Rose and Crown for lunch a week or so ago. Not the best impression to be honest. Although the pint I had was delicious, and I enjoyed my sandwich. You may ask why, well the choice of beers is EXTREMELY limited, and HOW MUCH just for a steakwich and a bowl of chips? Seriously, get real, not even real steak.

We wont be paying a 2nd visit I'm afraid.

ouch!

pop to the Joules (Royal Oak) in Eccleshall perhaps, i went there last Monday and it really is a lovely pub, i highly recommend the club sandwich comes with chips for £4.95 (i think), great price, great beer, great atmosphere, great staff.

Granted that the choice of food is limited but imo the prices are reasonable £2.95 for jacket spud and filling and a lovely chip butty (homemade chips not frozen) for £2 is good value and just right for a lunchtime snack.

get 'em to post them in the events section on 'ere, innit!

I'll have a word with Sean, the gaffer although I know one of his bar staff lurks on here. She may be able to push him in the right direction.

I've been looking forward to Monkey Fist this weekend for ages (Saturday 7.30 Sunday 2.30) Folk & Shanties. But Mrs T has arranged friends over for Sat night and it's my sister's birthday 'do' on Sunday lunchtime although I'm hoping to perhaps catch the end of Sunday's set.

'tis becoming my local of choice on the rare occasion I get to go out. Popped in on Wednesday evening and the Folk Music Club were in, gently playing some lovely ditties in the front bar. Created a really nice atmosphere. Equally, if you wanted to get away from that then you could sit round the back and just hear it in the background.

I'm looking forward to droppng by on a Sunday afternoon to hear some relaxed jazz/blues tunes and sup a pint.
