Not looked if this news is on any other thread, but Arthur Candlin jr died 9th March. Ex landlord of Kings Head, Doxey Arms and New Inn. Funeral next thursday at Crem 12.30.
Hi, I am Jean and Arthur's great neice and spent time with them in Stafford 1996 just before Auntie Jean passed away. I was looking for inforamtion on 'young' Arthur which lead me to this site. Really shocked and saddened to have found this message, can you tell me if this is Joise's husband Arthur who passed away in 2010. Much appreciated.

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I live in NZ, came home in 1998 and had lost touch with the Candlin's after Auntie Jean died.
I would love to catch up with Josie or her daughter Nicki, are you in contact with them at all? If so is it secure to give you my email address in this forum to pass on to them?

Underneath the picture of the rose, 'your name' and 'New Member' ( over < there to the left) you'll see a shaded box saying 'Private Message' - put your cursor over that and it will underline itself.

A 'Private Message' is just that - private...

The wonder of the Stafford Forum connecting families in New Zealand and England. Congratulations on providing this facility

From my vague memory Jackie Proudlock ran the Railway briefly in 96, after that a woman with her son & daughter ran it ( I think her sons name was John?) someone out there will correct me if I’m wrong…

Janine, John and Georgetta Holloway. Georgetta held the licence

I thought Sid and Flo Askey started their 17 year stint in 1959, they must have took over from Bert then. I'll have a look at the list behind the bar next time I'm in there. I know that a Bert Lockley was there 1929-40, wonder if he was the same.
My mum worked for Sid and Flo Askey at The Crown in the 70's, we left Stafford and then returned, my Dad became the landlord of The Falcon before Len Proudlock (1st time).

He had a garage nextdoor to the Falcon, specialised in Jaguars, if I recall accurately. He did the sills on a Minor for me. We had a fancy dress do in the upstairs room in 1983 and he videoed it. The video is a classic, if anybody has ever seen a copy of it.
My Dad had a few Jags over the years - can't recall what he was driving when we were at the Falcon, he had an e-type when we lived in Horsehay I know

Last saw Brian in The Lamb about 3 or 4 years ago. Considering he'd been ill, he looked younger than when he retired from The Sun.

That would be Major Frank Cary at the Crossbow 1965-79. Introduced a small coctail bar between the bar and the lounge. Kiss at your peril, you were not even allowed to put your arm round a girl. Nevertheless, he was a good bloke, managed to have four darts teams in the wednesday night league. Died in a local nursing home a few years ago.
From 1974 to 1976 I lived nearby in Newquay Avenue.
Frank Carey and his beer were two reasons why I didn't use the Crossbow.

I lived in Porlock Avenue from 74 to 78 - I remember going in once, but I don't even remember getting as far as having a beer to assess...
