I was taken there for a meal this afternoon. Not bad at all. The steak and ale pie is excellent and not for the faint-hearted..

Is that the one by the canal?
It is one of two by the canal. The Navigation is the one on the main road. There is also The Boat, a bit further south-east.

I know its not exactly the best weather right now but the cycle path that goes to gnosall is brilliant in summer and pops out right near the pubs :)

Exactly that though occurred to me whilst I was attacking the pie. The better weather will be along soon...

I used to live in Gnosall a few years ago and would recommend the Horns.
I did partake of the excellent food in The Horns a couple of times about three years ago - http://www.staffordforum.com/viewtopic.php?pid=41040#p41040 .

Oh and just in case the petrol station sells puncture repair kits, its a long path to walk!
I would merely remove the surviving inner tube and swim home, via Wolverhampton.

Ooh, could be worth making the effort - http://www.mikron.org.uk/ - they're doing Losing The Plot.

Losing The Plot

Love, life and allotments.

The gardeners of Thistledale Allotments are a rag-bag bunch of diggers and dreamers. When the Council hatchet-man visits, they must pull together or lose their precious plot altogether.
Told with a rollicking mix of old music hall tunes and brand new songs, Losing The Plot is a story of love – between people and the land; between people and people; and between people and their giant vegetables.

That sounds like my perfect evening! Am torn, though, between going to the Navigation on 7 Sept (food available, within easy cycling distance, a Friday night) or The Anchor on 6 Sept (something darkly referred to as 'refreshments', splendid eccentricity all round, house martins in the toilets, the opportunity to park-up at Loynton Moss and walk along the canal, spaniels encouraged) I suppose I have until September to dither.

It is indeed. The term 'food' isn't used on the Mikon website - merely refreshments. The last time I went to the Anchor they offered crisps and sandwiches.

enjoyed the entertainment on friday night as did the little yappy dog on the front row, the four-man-show excelled themselves with a very well scripted, humourus presentation. the sassy waitress from the pub was certainly working hard carrying food and drink to the assembled audience on the downside someone in a large van smashed into a parked car and drove off without leaving details however some local yokels passed on some gen to the irate car owner.........

I opted for The Anchor. I scrutinised the audience carefully, looking for anyone who might be a forumite. Anyone there?

I've just been to the Navigation again - had the steak and ale pie (again), but had prepared properly this time and my training paid off, though I may have to lie down for a bit now. Top notch nosh at a fair price.

Excellent grub, but it's well worth booking on a Sunday. They squeezed us in, as my entourage had ignored my recommendation to book..

The waiting staff is most impressive - flashes about like somebody training for a supermarket trolley dash, but seems to be in complete control of the situation, not a hint of flusteredness.
