And the rains came....

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
My son has his Prom as well tonight :(

I've been watching the BBC & Met office on-line weather forecast and at first it looked like 7pm, when they arrive at school, was light rain-now changed this last hour to heavier rain!

Everything seems to be going wrong for them.......Bloody Limo company they booked with seems to be a scam ,with website now saying 'ceased trading'.(National Limousine Hire if anyone else booked with them.). Now this weather-Aaaaarrrrgh
Walton High School by any chance?

I can assure you it does
Or did

I remember seeing a dustbin sail by The George a few years back - the deepest floods were usually found just beyond the pub toward Newcastle

maybe the basements to the new apartments have taken it all

Thought that if it was going to it would've done the other week when it seemed everywhere else did.

Yep, That's the one. :) Still raining heavy and going out to the pick up house in a minute, along with the brollies.

Got an 'after prom party' at someones house ,in a marquee on their lawn afterwards .That's going to be a bit of a mud bath afterwards after they've all been traipsing over it .

Our school always had a prom - nothing american influenced about it at all.

That's an awesome picture - although I'm guessing very carefully shot judging by the angle. I'm too lazy to pop 5 secs down to road to see what it's like now...

I think the refernce comes from the fact that virtually ever school has one now, and if your school had an event, where did the inspiration for the 'Prom' name come from? We used to have a leavers do for 6h formers, (though other years used to come!) but it was called The Leavers Do/Party/Disco/P*ss UP/Fight/Violence,random vandolism event! The re-pranding of this phenominum seems to have escalated into:- A fashion show/transport/makeup, contest that mimics the worst side of the pond, costs lots of money, puts pressure on teenagers and their parents/guardians, and seems to be inspired ny trash TV that has invaded our screens! Yep I am unashamedly nostalgic for Punk, when you were judged on an item of clothing that cost next to nothning, and looked like you had got it off a a skip, or your dads wardrobe! Teens didn't seem so concerned with how much everything cost, and an expensive image, designers, sretch limo, makeup, body image, ect (:rimshot:Oh get some sleep you sad old kit! People want to have FUN, not dwell on yesteryear!Save us from americanisation! :help:

No, to the best of my knowledge my school always called their 6th form leavers party a prom...

Ours were always called a Leavers do,disco.p*ss up etc. no-one got dressed up in posh frocks, tho some girls wore as little as possible.Jeans n a tshirt were main clobber, and it were held in the main school hall, not some over priced posh place. A Prom's an american idea. I left school in 1980,no-one had the money splash around for owt fancy.
