With all due respect to the all knowing Admin, how is it useful to merge a thread from before the place was turned into a terrible Mexican restaurant, with one on the current Sun?

Surely the experience Wormella and I had when it was the gastro-pub division of the Grapes empire has long ceased to be of any relevance to anything?

Popped here for lunch before going to the music at the castle. 2x roast beef dinners for £9.95. Plenty of beef (very tasty and served medium - medium rare), boiled new potatoes, roast potatoes, carrots, green beans, parsnips and a Yorkshire pud. The parsnips could have been cut a bit chunkier (they were like shoestring chips) and the single Yorkshire pud could have done with some company, but overall it was lovely and I'll defo be going again.

you should get them to post a proper event in the Stafford Events section, so it appears on the front page and they can upload a flyer, etc.

And the proper presentation of the local CAMRA Pub of the Year Award will take place "about teatime" on the Saturday, so the beer & cider could take a hammering then.

balls - thanks for the heads-up.. that's exactly when we were planning on going, but might give it a miss now!

If it's anything like getting Pub of the Month it shouldn't interfere with anyone else's pub experience - a quick 30 second presentation, a handshake and a photograph behind the bar and on with the important business of drinking...

it was more the prospect of them running out of beer that made me go all aquiver.. we've decided to come early afternoon now, anyhoo..

although i've just noticed that the flyer says the BBQ is evenings only.. anyone know approx. what time they'll be firing it up? we were hoping to get stuck in at lunchtime, but it looks like that's not an option

I wouldn't worry too much about the Sun running out of beer on Saturday as there probably wont be huge numbers from the local CAMRA there and those that are there will of course be drinking responsibly ;)

I'm quite sure there will be lots of beer for everyone. Not sure about numbers, some are otherwise engaged but something at the Sun is likely to get some of the less active members appearing. Responsible drinking? I have photographs taken in the Sun on the Sunday after the Beer Festival. And someone sems to have changed the time to 7 - 7.30pm (ish)

Had a very pleasant couple of hours here on Saturday afternoon, the York Blonde was going down well (oooerrr!) Mrs Trumpet was quite relaxed on the Cranberry wine on offer.
Thanks Sun, looking forward to the next one.

We popped along for a few hours on Saturday afternoon too...despite the rain it was really good. Had some lovely food from the normal menu (the barbecue hadn't started up yet) and several nice pints. I think my favourite was either the Kashmir or the Endless Summer.

Popped in on Saturday and as I was driving thought I would have a 'weaker' beer so had a pint of Steerage which was light, smooth and tasty. Nice and warm inside with a good crowd in (the town seamed dead but that was only a snap shot at 9pm)
