Hothouse flower, I could make use of the pine filing cabinet and maybe the TV/DVD if it's not too big (for a spare room with limited space), would happily make a donation to either yourself or KH and I can collect.

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but I went up a couple of Sundays ago to find the store closed! Surely Sundays are the prime day for the store, especially with drop offs instead of going to the tip?!

On the sign, the Sunday part is taped up so it did use to be open on Sunday.

I was just surprised that's all, thought it was a banker it would be open.

Bob, the DVD has gone. The TV is enormous so I doubt you would want it (its depth is bigger than the width!)
You are very welcome to have the filing cabinet for free if you would like it though.
The man is coming to collect on Friday so would you be able to collect before then.....that way if you decide not to take it then I can give it to him.
Would you like me to measure it?

Bob....I sent you a PM yesterday.

Have you changed your mind?

No probs if you have.....I just didn't want to get rid if you were still interested.

I thought I'd replied to the message yesterday and just tried again but don't seem to have the option to reply (very odd)

I wouldn't be able to get over to you until Monday so let it go tomorrow if you need it gone.

Am I the only one who thinks some of the stuff here is expensive? I know they are raising money for a brilliant cause, but I've just visisted and some of the things are more expensive thn I can get them brand new for. DVD's and books are reasonable, but some of the chipboard 70's furniture is, IMO, very over priced. Interested if others agree or am I just stingy? :)

Tis much easier to see the stuff they have nowadays though with the new layout.

Enjoying a drop of red.
If you think it's pricey then you aren't under any obligation to buy, so I don't see it as a problem really.

I've thought that a few times, not just there but in most charity shops - gone are the days of grabbing yourself a bargain - which is why people tend to go to charity shops in the first place.

Although on the other side - the items have been donated to raise money for the charity and they should be trying to make as much as possible.

It’s not easy to achieve a happy medium, I've not been in for quite a while but the prices for some things did seem expensive to me when you take into account that they're second hand and not much cheaper than new.

Surely it’s better to make £10 today from something than have it sit there for 6 weeks in order to get £20. Then the person who only paid £10 is more likely to return and buy more.

If you think it's pricey then you aren't under any obligation to buy, so I don't see it as a problem really.

I don't think there is any need for sarcy comments to the above post, yes you are under no obligation to buy and I don't think it was suggested that there was - this is just the sort of thing that promotes the nastiness that goes on, on here a lot recently.

It was NOT intended to be a 'sarcy comment', merely an observation.

The only nastiness I see here is you having a pop at me for no reason :|

I have commented in the past that I thought some of the stuff (as you say, larger furniture mainly) is overpriced...

I was interested (6 months back) in a chest of draws, admittedly solid pine but quite rickety and priced at £90.... not good value at all. Asked if they could do any discount on it (following previous comments on here) but was stone walled... walked away in the end...

The place seemed to be run by more mature (read: older) people who have never heard of the internet etc... so must be comparing to expensive bespoke furniture suppliers or antique dealers etc...

Agree though, the layout was much improved recently....

I've always been happy with the prices I've paid there - by definition, I suppose, or I wouldn't have bought the things. When all said and done, they are trying to maximize income and it may be that history suggests that certain types of things can be 'pushed' a bit, resulting in the odd extra tenner towards the Hospice itself. Maybe 'country house types' might be taken by a 'distressed' solid pine chest of drawers, for instance. They can always drop the prices on things that hang on a bit, after all.

The price on the label is merely an offer to sell, after all.

I'm sure that the layout is better, although it didn't bother me before.

They have been known to reduce items that have not sold, just ask, as we did last week, we saved nearly 40% on a carpet that had been in for quite a while.
