oh dear - i had no idea that if you commented on a newsletter article online, that it ends up in the printed edition of the paper! i'm in there this week, calling everyone on castlefields NIMBYs lol..

So I take it you won't be getting any christmas cards from castlefields this year? :D

no, i almost certainly will, as i've got a few friends on castlefields - all of whom can't wait for the hungry horse to be built! one of them will most likely be able to see it from his house, and he's the most vocal supporter of all of them.. it really is just the NIMBYs who have got a cob on about it

Eh.... I would doubt many if any Castlefields residents would see the pub from their houses... maybe if they really look for it i.e. crane neck out of window... but in general sight, no way...

So as above has anyone from the new Castlefields estate actually mentioned it spoiling their views.... or are Castlefields residents receiving libelous comments unfairly?

As an aside, if anyone in that area has a fair complaint then they have a right to air it within the correct legal channels and this catch all "NIMBY" rubbish is pathetic...

For the record, yes I do live on Castlefields, no I can't see it from my house and I don't really give two hoots if it is built or not.... if it does, I dare say I will use it occasionally, if it doesn't then I will be happy to continue to see the small patch of greenery (as pathetic a patch as it is).

good point - i was mistaken about the proposed location of the hungry horse.. i thought it was going on the corner of the entrance to castlefields, where that grassland is atm.. apparently it's going in the little "retail park" type thing just next to it, where vets4pets is, gym & tonic, etc. - in which case, as you say, it really won't be any more of an "eye sore" than it is already!

the quote published in the newsletter was a comment i left on the online version of one of their articles, which quoted 3 separate people purporting to be from castlefields.. there wasn't a single negative comment from anyone who didn't live on castlefields, as far as i can remember! hence the NIMBY label..

no, of course not, but one can have a perfectly valid and legitimate complaint and be a NIMBY at the same time.. imo labelling someone as a NIMBY doesn't mean that they're spouting rubbish, just that they would less likely to complain if it wasn't in their "back yard" and so they could remain objective..

Fair clarification DB,

However surely the very reason people wouldn't complain if it wasnt in their back yard, is because it doesn't affect them.... for example I couldn't complain about the houses being built on the old police HQ (or perhaps not being built now but bear with me...) creating traffic chaos if I didn't live there and never drive up there... apparently that makes me a NIMBY.... but it ignores the fact that I still think its a crap idea and if I did live up there then I would complain.

Greene King are currently sending out invitations to comment on the proposed development - I've just seen one that was delivered to a house on Wolverhampton Road.

Wow it's going to be a massive pub if you can see it from the wolverhampton road :P

How do I edit this?
One came to work... I'm sorely tempted to send it back with 'why do you make such bland beer?' written in the comments.

I received it as well, I'm just wondering how the traffic would be impacted considering that both A518 and A449 (alternative route) are so busy already... And, why similar pubs as someone here said already... it would be nice to have a different style of restaurant like Nandos or Rossopomodoro... I could stand the traffic jam for them!

I'm not really sure we do have many similar places? Its a kid friendly pub/restaurant thats cheap and in spitting distance of town, and specialises in large amounts of meat. The only places I can really compare it to are the Red Hill or the other one on J13, which are a bit out of the way unless you want to drive. Besides, if the traffic is acceptable for a Nandos then its acceptable for a Hungry Horse ;)

The Radford is along the same lines - and maybe even the Royal Oak, although I haven't been in there this century.

The traffic situation shouldn't be too bad - I would expect that the roundabout being there will help - better than trying to turn right out of the Radford, anyway..

Have never come across Rossopomodoro is it like Carluccios ? Don't reckon that much to Carluccios in all honesty.

I like Jamie's Italian though the food is reasonably priced and they are child friendly.

The leaflet mentioned something about solving current traffic / parking problems but didn't expand on that point... anyone got the exact wording and know what it might be alluding to?

Traffic lights ;)

Dang... my pen was hovering over the "support" box but I might have to caveat that with "as long as it doesn't involve traffic lights..."

Actually I do think it referred to "parking problems" rather than "traffic problems" which is why I hoped someone had the exact wording.
