How CONTROVERSIAL (as mentioned by the staffordshire newsletter) was this debate?
We all know the result before hand... We only get to hear their excuse...

Certain orgs that are likely to be bidding have already headhunted some staff. I suspect they think they are shoe ins.

The more worrying thing is yet more public services being flogged off.
5,000 jobs being privatised with the county holding a minority shareholding. Jobs such as music teachers, outdoor education, catering and cleaning, grounds maintenance, ICT, Early years, special educational needs support and minority ethnic services. All services which have won awards for excellence -
bring back turkey twizzlers, cheap labour, and high prices for parents!!!

I think these sort of televised Local Authority debates are a good idea in theory but perhaps the problem is that people are only generally engaged in local services when they are directly effected by them. People want good, well resourced local services but often don't bother to engage or shout up about what they think they should actually look like. The typically terrible turnout in Local Authority elections is a good example of this - can't be bothered to shape the debate but will moan like a drain if the bin doesn't get emptied one week.

Planning is a really good example of this. People on the whole can't be bothered to get involved with strategic planning but then you watch them go off like a firework if they get wind there is going to be a couple of extra houses within the area they usually take their dog to have a s&%t.
