The Royal Oak, Eccleshall

The Royal Oak have just re-opened the revamped function room upstairs. Good venue for the smaller 'do' 50-60 people. If the cheese buffet they put on on opening night is anything to go by, they deserve to do well.

I've been in a few times and I love what they've done with it, the manager (the South African Guy - I think he's the manager) is lovely and when he's around the service has alway been spot on, but there is one lad who works there (tall, dark hair and glasses) whos is really rude and to be honest since our last encounter with him we've not felt in much of a hurry to return.

I went there a few weeks ago and it really is a lovely pub, i highly recommend the club sandwich comes with chips for £4.95 (i think), great price, great beer, great atmosphere, great staff.

Joules know how to do it right, there's a Ye Olde Rose and Crown thread you may also be interested in, mixed feelings about the place from some, but i liked it when i visited.

That would be Ewan, bit of a mathematical prodigy, apparently close to genius level if local gossip is taken in. But sometimes comes across as a bit 'different' if you don't know him. Personally think he's a nice lad and never had any problems with him.

Glad to see it open again,; went in maybe 12 months ago when it was derelict, easily accessible to all and sundry, and a potential fire hazard (My old job!), and it was in a sorry state!

I've literally just had lunch there with the good lady - and very nice it was too. I can highly recommend the sandwiches as a lunch time snack.

They managed to do me a main course size portion of the mussels (normally a starter) on Saturday, yummy.
Very obliging.

There is a first anniversary celebration 'do' at the Oak this Sunday. Live band, bouncy castle, buffet/barbeque etc.
Sounds like am OK way to spend a Sunday afternoon if the weather is clement.

Ok, so i drove out to Eccleshall last Saturday afternoon from Stafford, and my destination was The Royal Oak for a bite to eat.

I turned up at 2.28 to be told they were not serving food, that they stopped serving at 2!

Now, tell me, as i can't be the only one, but a pub of The Royal Oaks size stop serving food on a Saturday afternoon seems pathetic right?, i can just about understand that main meals may stop being served at 2 but they couldn't even offer a sandwich, i was bitterly disappointed.

I found myself driving off to the Dog & Doublet, where they also stop serving main meals but do a mean sarnie, with chips, so something available whatever time of the day.

maybe if someone invented a telephone that you could carry with you at all times we could all save ourselves some petrol money and time and not go to places that are shut - bit rad that :slayer:
