I was going to post this in Name Changes, but it's a bit off topic. Name changes, closures, character changes ... In July 1991 a bunch of lads from Wolverhampton decided to come on a pub crawl in Stafford. A couple of them did a reconnoitre and came up with 5 separate crawls, this is their list of the pubs in all of the crawls - plus a few try alsos and some avoid at all costs.

Comment and reminisce.

I like to believe that there may be some still in there.

I seem to remember attaining a total of 65 in the '90s, when trying to list how many 'pubs' there still were that could be reached without having to venture out into a zone where the National Speed Limit applied. The list was generally pubs, but we included'open' hotels, la Vine, Swan, Garth, etc...

You could add the Post House.

Also the West Way and that place on Western Downs people were talking about recently in relation to a Motorcycle Club (not Bombay) could be added.

This is based in the '90s - the Post Office didn't have a licence then - the Yeoman(Westway) is there, but, you're right I missed the Oxleathers - I still have time to sneak that one in at the end..

I wonder when the Picture House opened as a Wetherspoons? And Casa, could one just wander in?

Opinions on Satchmo's, Props, Tillington Hall, Reagan's, Picture House - etc..?

For God's sake! After all that, I missed the Alpine Lodge/Rickerscote Arms..

And the Staffordshire Bull.

So, if we're counting these

Rickerscote Arms
Staffordshire Bull
Satchmo's
Tillington Hall
Props

..then that's 63.

The Picture House opened as a pub in '97 and I don't think that Reagan's was a 'walk in off the street and get a drink' type of place..

I wonder if the Bank House would have counted..?

Would the Newt and Cucumber / Litten Tree have been there in 1991? Didn't it have an American theme at one time?

Spot the deliberate error in the 1959 list.

Litten Tree: Riverside Bar, Faces American Bar, Newt & Cucumber, Litten Tree

I wondered about the Crossbow - it would have been very new then, if it was there..

Ah, Faces - I would never have remembered. When did it open as a licensed establishment?

Think the name change from Newt & Cucumber to Litten Tree was in 2000 and from Faces to Newt & Cucumber about two years before that, but I could be wrong.

Think it changed from Faces to Newt & Cucumber about 1998 and then to Litten Tree in 2000. Could be wrong. The council offices were 1970s.

I am on the point of giving up on this post (loud cheers). There were several duplicate posts because it kept telling me the server was not responding & to try again, then all of the attempts appeared. Message underneath said posted 8 minutes ago but when I tried to alter them I was told I couldn't because they had been posted more that 10 minutes ago. Then I tried to post an explanation like this and it told me I didn't have permission to view or alter this page. At that point it decided to merge two of the origial post and wipe the rest. I can take a hint.
