That is pretty awesome really, and no reason you couldn't hook it up to an android tablet to control.

I agree, you'd think it could never get off the ground. When you consider the cameras in mobile phones now though, and they are just a few mm thick. It really is quite scary how fast some things have come on.
However, despite my love of all things high tech, I really enjoyed watching a V12 engine being built the other day. I knew the basics, but it was rather satisfying watching the thing take shape.

Indeed, £20,000,000 contract to supply 160 of them - so £125,000 each...Just heard this costs over £100k!

I can't help but think the iPhone ones for $60 can't be much less useful. Okay, so maybe a tad bigger, a tad noisier, and a lower quality camera. But I can't quite warrant the extra £125,000 (minus $60)
If I'd have watched the video Gramaisc linked to in the post WITHOUT sound, I'd have just thought the guy was saying....
"So, my son bought me one of these off eBay and got it shipped out here to me. Me and the lads have been having a right laugh with it when we're bored".

Just over a year on from this discussion and I've just ordered a drone capable of going up to a couple of thousand feet in height (although 400 feet is the CAA's guidelines), half a km away and even has GPS onboard that returns it to within 1 meter of where it took off from if control is lost for any reason. A 720p camera onboard which is controlled via an iPhone or Android phone / tablet attached to the main transmitter.
The price tag? Under £400.
