Start with a couple of Silkies and insist they are kittens. Did you ever keep Indian Runner Ducks? I've got a bit of a hankering but no experience. One of my broodies hatched a clutch of duckling for a neighbour once and they were fab but I only kept them until they were old enough to manage without the hen. I wonder if you can keep them together with hens and if they put themselves to bed or need rounding-up every evening?
Yes I kept just one runner and an aylesbury duck once. The eggs weren't for me.... far too oily!! I had problems getting them in at night but ended up letting nature take course... some nights they went in and some they didn't. They're ducks and seemed quite happy to be outdoors.

Down boys.

DOWN, stop jostling.

I am not Rebecca 3 miles away trying to woo you away.

I am me, in my dressing gown and slippers trying to get a recipe for eggy bread.

Yep, why waste time?

At least I'm only interested in his eggy bread.
Not about fertilising other eggs

ooh err missus.
Hahaha! :D

Yup, as Withnail has instructed is about as complex as the recipe gets. I prefer to fry in oil not butter. As for quantity of eggs, how ever many you need to whip up in a dish so that you can coat the bread in it. I also add just a dash of milk too, but not essential.

Quotes like that always remind me of that great line from Morecambe and Wise.

Anyway, she opened the door and was standing there, wearing a negligent.

You mean negligée.

You didn't see how she was wearing it...

Typical bloke.

How much egg? Just egg? How much butter? How long frying?
On a more serious, and more related, note...

I find that one 'large' egg is enough to properly do justice to only one and a half slices of bread. Given that you will want at least two slices, i find it best to use two eggs and have three slices even though three slices is probably a little more than truly necessary, working on the 'best to have too much than too little' principle.

Simple shallow frying, for as long as you would fry an egg for, possibly slightly less - turn them over a few times and go for golden.

Ketchup is, and i cannot stress this enough, obligatory.

Use more eggs than you're likely to need. The great thing is there's no waste as you can always pour the remainder in as an omlette!

And he's right about the red sauce. My wife HATES the stuff usually, yet she never eats eggy bread without it!!

(I've actually just found myself looking to see if we have any eggs. Why wait till breakfast!)

you did say dressing gown and slippers - I'd call that half dressed at a push!!! (Maybe a third without "negligents") :lolsmash:

I am so excited.

Am going to make eggy bread with eggs from the farm in the morning.

2 eggs and a bit of butter and some oil.

Oh, when do I turn it over?

Unless you are an extreme health concious person, I'd forget that I ever said butter and just use oil.
I fry it on quite a high setting for probably not much more than a minute each side. As long as you get that nice golden look going on you should be sweet. Treat it the same as you would cooking an omlette and you cant go far wrong

I tend to use a bit of both - maybe a tsp or so of oil and a less-than-a-knob of butter, otherwise oil only.

Use the Force - it will tell you when to turn them.

My middle son hates eggs but strangely loves eggy bread (or Gypsy Toast as my Dad calls it). I love eggs but hate eggy bread!

Anyhoo.....

Sometimes middle son adds a spoon of caster sugar and some cinnamon to the eggy mixture for a sweet version :)

1, Perhaps you're not his real mother.

2, Cinnamon abuse may be a result of a genetic risk factor.

Not sure he can of inherited my love of abusing cinnamon if he's not my son?

He does have a doppleganger that I regularly try to accost - the poor lad is the spitting image of my son but 3 years older.....

There seems to be a great deal of inconsistency here.

Try offering the doppleganger some cinnamon-tainted eggy bread....
