The BBC said:The hospital's critical care unit will be downgraded and it will lose some emergency surgery. Seriously ill children will no longer be admitted to Stafford and will instead go to Stoke-on-Trent.
Yeah, cos when you're a seriously ill child the best thing to help you is a trip up the A34....
The idiots at the TSA said:The proposed changes mean:
- Accident and Emergency will remain open at Stafford Hospital operating between 8am and 10pm, every day as it does now. The TSAs’ recommendations would facilitate A&E being better staffed with A&E consultants.
- An increased choice of consultants and specialists will be available at Stafford and Cannock Chase hospitals.
- A greater range of specialties will be available to patients at Stafford Hospital, for example, Orthopedic surgery is to be introduced at Stafford meaning patients who currently go to Cannock Chase for hip replacements, for example, can have their procedures nearer home.
- A Frail Elderly Assessment service will be created to provide one-stop assessment for older people and take referrals from a wide range of sources to better meet the needs of the frail elderly.
- Beds will be made available at Stafford Hospital for recovering patients, following a spell of inpatient treatment at a specialist hospital, to rehabilitate nearer to home.
- Children will continue to be assessed at Stafford Hospital’s Paediatric Assessment Unit during its current opening hours of 8am to 10pm. The TSAs are also working with local commissioners to look at establishing a new service which would allow more children to be treated safely and appropriately at home.
- Cannock Chase Hospital will continue to offer its present range of services, including rheumatology, and there are plans to enhance services where possible.
If I was the Labour party candidate for Stafford I'd be lobbying Ed Millimetre to confirm that should they win the general election in 2015 that this decision will be completely reversed and that acute services will remain - that would be the way to be an absolute shoe in for an important swing seat come the General Election - bye, bye Le Fraud, close the door on your way out.....

And has her ladyship Julie Bailey made any comment yet ??
I still find it bizarre that people fail to direct their venom at elected and former elected and well paid representatives in the first instance, namely the lame David Kidney and Completely lame Jeremy Lefroy, not to mention a whole host of Health MinistersAnd has her ladyship Julie Bailey made any comment yet ??
Has anyone had the misfortune yet to see the panel of administrators (weird looking bunch) on the news talking about their recommendations - the bare faced cheek of them to set out their proposals as some sort of great victory for Stafford hospital and that just because both sites are to remain open as little more than a St John's Ambulance, village drop in clinic for cuts, grazes and polo mints this is a massive success.
