Buffet advice

My little one is getting christened soon and I will be doing a buffet afterward.

I will be doing sandwiches and pork pies etc but wonder how many sandwiches to do.
There will be approx. 50 guests and I was thinking 4 quarters/triangles each.

Any thoughts on if this is enough/too much?

<------- Qualified chef :P The usual amount is 1 sandwich (2 slices of bread) per person, some will eat more, some will eat less but with the other items on the buffet it should work out. Good luck :)

We work on 1 & half sandwiches each so if in triangles = 6
That's what we used work on when I was in the kitchen at work. Then you have nibbles etc on top, even if you are using small pork pies, cut them into quarters, easier to pick up and eat then.

But not when doing afternoon tea?

Don't get me wrong, I love afternoon tea at the Moat House and have been there 4 times since Sept and will be going again next month.......but I love savoury more than sweet. You get 4 dainty triangles per person when I could easily eat 6 ....then you get more cake than even a greedy person could eat.

I would prefer more sandwiches and less cake. But that's just me.

tea: a light midafternoon meal of tea and sandwiches or cakes; "an Englishman would interrupt a war to have his afternoon tea"

I suppose the key thing is the fact that afternoon tea is supposed to be a light meal, not a full on buffet, hence we serve slightly less for afternoon tea than at a buffet, however just let us know when your coming and we'll happily double up for you, LOL
