Afternoon all,

I have stumbled upon loads of great Android apps recently and thought it might be a good idea to share them and others could do the same, Android, Apple or other....

My list of faves at the moment are:

Airdroid - control phone functions from your PC browser without wires, just need both on the same wireless network. Much easier to text message from a PC keyboard
Cover - cool lockscreen replacement that learns your most used apps (context sensitive) and gives you quick access to them from your lockscreen.
TickTick - to-do and task list, the best I have found, can have date/time based reminders or geofenced ones i.e. 'next time i'm in town, remind me to pick up some carrots'.
Trigger - easier to use version of Tasker and includes NFC. I use this to mute my phone when it connects to work wireless networks, switch on gps and launch Waze when it is in the car etc.


Plus the good old ones like:
Waze - the best (and free) Sat Nav in my opinion.
TV Catchup - watch TV on your phone for free.
TuneInRadioPro - listen to the radio on your phone for free.

Hope these help someone and look forward to hearing about some other helpful apps from everyone.

In the last week I've installed the MightyText app on my phone, and the google chrome plugin on my PC.
I can now very easily read and reply to texts from the computer which is extremely handy when there's a few to reply to. You can also group message up to 10 people at once if you want to. It even pops up while i'm surfing the forum if a text comes through.

I've just started using mysms, primarily for ease of texting from a tablet or a PC. The sync function with Evernote and Sugarsync is pretty handy as well.

Is Tunein Pro free now? I had to pay for mine :(

2 iPhone apps: tangled fx: take a photo and then apply fractal filters to it giving, some potentially very weird but controlable images and Lapse it: set the number of frames and time between frames to take photos and then combine them into a "sort of" video.

I used Waze a few years ago, it wasn't that good but certainly showed potential. Will have another look, not that I drive!

I used Waze back in the early days when you were actually creating the roads as you drove. Not used it for a couple of years now though.

Yeah, thats how I remember it! They didn't have official street data so just collected where people went and made their own.

I'll be doing a trip to Gosport in the next couple of weeks, so I'll let you all know how Waze copes with it (obviously my real Sat Nav will be set up too as a backup)

Wont have the time on this occassion unfortunately, although have been up it a few times already. No picture does the view justice, so if anyone is ever down that way make sure you give it a try.

This thread is proving very useful as I continue to add apps to the Hudl I recently got.

I've not used Waze but have heard good things about it, I believe Google purchased it recently and features have started appearing in its own solution.

Must go now, getting vertigo from that picture of the Spinnaker Tower.

I've used Waze for a good few years now and it has improved massively.

Its very similar to Google maps / navigation in that it is a free sat nav, but Waze allows users to report hazards, accidents, speed cameras , heavy traffic etc. Also Waze uses travel times from users to advise others of their travel times (all without you doing anything) so if you drive from Stafford to Stoke and there is heavy traffic on the A34 then Waze will take that into account if I then try to take the same route.

A few months ago I was travelling up to Manchester and there had been an accident on the M6 between J15 and J16.... luckily I heard the traffic report on the radio so planned to use the A500 to avoid it but as it happens, Waze already knew about the accident and was routing me that way anyway.

The poster above is correct that Google have recently purchased it.

Also a recent improvment - they have added voice control so if you wave your hand in-front of the screen you can then talk to it "report traffic" to which it will reply, "how heavy is the traffic, reply with light, medium or heavy" and once you reply it will report it.

Really good to be fair.

Used Waze myself today to guide a friend who was driving us for an all-you-can-eat at The Taybarns in Newcastle, and I must say I was impressed! Better than my last Sat Nav, really clear speech AND it informed me about a speed camera van ahead - WOW! Absolutely brilliant. Will use it again next week to go to Gosport at which point I'll have every faith in it getting me there. :up: :up: from me

Yeah i noticed that too, although maybe it was the keywords "glass floor" that I added that brought it up in the results possibly
