I started looking when I accidentally discovered the ones behind the Radford/Trumpet. There are several that would have remained unknown, were it not for the 'satellite' layer on Google Maps.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Good work G!

Not too sure polygon 13 is accurate, unless they are really new allotments.

There's one in Nottingham that's Grade two listed. Its in between the HP sauce, the cat's eyes and the shin guards

No, really

Friend at work has 1, back of Corporation St. She shares it with her sister. They grow a wide variety of veggies and fruit. Half of which I'd starve before eating. For Christmas they had half a poly tunnel each. It int for me tho, I'm far too lazy put the effort in, don't even cut the grass out the back here.

Coton Fields allotments used to run all the way from the back of Corporation Street right up to Charnley Road.

Coton Fields, around 1900.

I've now given the plots names on the map - but, they're my names and may not correspond with the official names that the Borough Council might use.

I've also added empty zones at Astonfields and Coton Fields, where the area has been reduced from the original extent.

What a great read:). Love the photo's. There's something kind of nostalgic about allotments isn't there and we are very lucky in Stafford to be able to get one pretty easily so long as you're not too fussy on which site you want one on. I visited the allotment shop on the Holmcroft allotments this morning to get some essential supplies; canes, fertiliser etc, and it was like walking in to a bygone age of friendliness and helpfulness. Don't think it's officially open to the public, but no-one asked for any proof that I am indeed an allotment holder. now i just need some more nice weather to enable me to get more planting prep done.

Interesting how many allotment holder now keep chooks. Great to see.

I believe that "outsiders" can use the Holmcroft Shop - officially, you're supposed to join something or other, and it used to be 50p a year, but, as you say, they aren't too bothered.

I believe that the Meadow Road Allotments may not be a Borough Council operation - it might be SARH, I think.

I've checked the Borough list and I should be using their nomenclature now.

We had one on Exeter street. It was a nightmare and total money pit. It was also unsafe, with big spikes of metal sticking up through the ground in unexpected places. Couldn't dig it out as what ever it was, was just too big. The agreement was OH and his Dad went halves on everything. Turns out we paid for and did 98% his Dad turned up 3 times gossiped with the other plot holders and made out he did all the work. The allotment committee had a coup whilst we were there and all of a sudden the same 5 plot owners/committee members took over most of the plots. Growing so much they must have been market gardeners. We were named twice as having broken the gate locks when in fact we were not at the allotment on those days. We had a strawberry patch with disappearing strawberries too.
Loved the garlic and onions we produced, the courgettes turned into marrows though, the kids harvest festivals were very bemused lol. It was costing too much in the end so we gave it up before we moved.
