My daughter is 15 and would like a part time job. Does anybody know of any going in Stafford? I've looked in the papers but there doesn't seem much about for people of her age? I'm sure she could turn her hand to anything. Cheers.

I think the lack of jobs for that age group is down to red tape
My insurance company won't allow it I asked a couple of yrs ago then there's the Elf n Safety to consider that's another mine field'
Shame really when there's kids out there want a taste of working life

It's deffo down to insurance problems and red tape.

Having said that, I considered my 15 year old getting a job and some kind person on here pointed out what a detrimental effect it had on her childs school work. Made me think twice and we didn't pursue it, but I was grateful for the advice I was given.

might be worth asking in corner shops . Some will take on under 16's for shelf stacking.

I totally agree Education come first every time
This young Lady was really just looking at what the job was all about before jumping in and I'm glad to say she's now completed level 2 and well on her way to level 3 with help from Uncle BP Stafford will soon have a good lady sparky

As above - most large companies won't take on anyone under 16 -

However have you considered:

Paper round
Waitressing
Restaurant or pub work/ pot washing etc
Smaller independent companies (garden centres etc)

I've worked since I was 13 - I saved every penny and was able to buy my first house at 22, with money to spare to renovate.

It wasn't detrimental to my education - I also had the time to get a degree!

If you really want something you have to be prepared to work for it!!

Ooh just thought - for a short time I worked at The Hollybush in Salt - lovely place and they're always busy and looking for staff.

Only other thing I'd say us as she's under 18 her national minimum wage will be £3.79 an hour

https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates

Which really sucks! Especially if she is doing the same work as older colleagues!

But then again it makes her more employable as she's cheaper!

I did an Avon round at 15 it takes time to get a good round up but you can earn a bit of money from it.

There's also Better ware, Clean easy, Virgin cosmetics etc. and it may work doing one drop of all books at the same time, though I think you need to spend a little bit of money buying the books and bags before you start.

Babysitting might be a good option or cleaning/lawn moving/car washing.

There a number of volunteering jobs for 15 year olds, however apart from the ones mentioned above I am struggling to think of any other paid jobs.

That was probably me :) I'm all for them working, but my middle son ran himself ragged while at school with an early morning paper round, late night chippy assistant job & any bar work he could fit inbetween (all off the books apart from the paper round)- & his school work did suffer.

However he did learn a good work ethic & is now assistant manager for a large coffee chain store at age only 20 :)

It is really difficult to find any work now if you are under 18, McDonalds is probably one of the only employers that will employ 17yr olds legally ...

Cheers folks for the replies. I have already looked up the laws and constraints of working whilst at school. Apparently, you can't shove them into factory jobs but then again, I think I'd struggle on that score anyway. I think the ones that TCRL quoted are looking the more realistic but it's given me a bit of something to go on, so thanks all.

Her work/life experience will be infinitely more valuable than her education except in the minority of cases.

Just any of my degree qualified below national average salary earning peers who wish they'd started at the bottom of a company and worked their way through the ranks...
