Come on people, we have to vote tomorrow.

I've had various communications with Kate and she ALWAYS replies personally and quickly. I have NEVER had this with Mr Jeremy Lefroy, you always have to wait and then it's one of his minions who gets back to you.

I thought she came across quite well in that stafford fm video that was posted some moments ago - enthusiastic. Not had a lot of time to get properly jaded yet, though, has she?

I'm going to vote for her in a, no doubt vain, attempt to thwart another five years of Cameron et al.

Labour in vain? Well it's worth a shot, but i'm pessimistic.

I'm a bit pissed off that the smaller parties haven't made more of an effort to canvas my vote. Considering that all I keep hearing about is how this could be the election that ends the two party system, I wouldn't recognise three of those candidates in the street- and I actually bother to take an interest in local politics.

I've heard loads from Labour and NHA, very little from the incumbent (who seems a bit complacent about it all) and absolutely naff all from the other three. They don't seem to have made an effort to stand on local issues at all.

We haven't had anyone knock here. Loads of leaflets have come thru the door, some repeated in triplicate.

I have had Tory, Labour, Green and NHS leaflets - a Tory visit - and no input from UKIP or Lib-Dems.

Not that it really matters to me with my "ignore what they say they'll do, just try to guess what they really will do" policy.

I think because the polls are neck and neck - and the campaign has been so sterile, the small parties will be squeezed out.
i.e. sympathy might be with the small guy, but you wouldn't want to let the nutter in with a squandered vote.

Have they the budget to do so, though? This is where the 'spend' aspect comes in - more leafleting from the Tories is down to money. Are the blue leaflets being delivered by paid letterbox jockeys?

What can the smaller parties do? If they can't afford a print run, and haven't the volunteers anyway to post them, what is stuffed is not letterboxes, but them.

What I meant wasn't leaflets. I've seen press releases, local comment and social media from Labour and NHA- that costs nowt.

I'm not really wired in to that sort of thing so can't comment.

I think that it is probably right for the smaller parties to direct their resources/time elsewhere, as i think this particular seat is more of a two horse race than others might be. Social media etc still relies on a 'bums on seats' sort of affair - have they the 'people' to maintain such a campaign?

Aren't there limits that you can't spend more than?

It's taken a bit of finding, but the limits are as below -

Between 19th December and 29th March - £30,700 + 9p per voter in county seats or 6p per voter in borough seats.

Between 30th March and 7th May - £8,700 + 9p or 6p as above.



It was easier to find the Irish rules, and they're a bit simpler.

  • €45,200 per candidate in a five-seat constituency
  • €37,650 per candidate in a four-seat constituency
  • €30,150 per candidate in a three-seat constituency

There is a County-wide limit on spend round these parts, what with the whole street furniture purdah.

That has to go - shurely - election time has become, to the casual observer, even more boring than usual.

Quite apart from anything else we want - nay DEMAND! - the opportunity to deface them with hitler moustaches and the like.

The amount of regulation for election expenses and the complexity thereof is beyond reason. You would have to be a corporate body to cope with it. I'm quite shocked by what I waded through to find that info above.

There is a trailer thingy that parks up by the tory club, massive photo of Jeremy LeFroy on either side. The temptation I have to draw glasses and a tache on it, but can't. I'm such a short arse, I need step ladders to do so.
