Q in Victoria Park

Does anybody know anything about Q in Victoria Park which is being held next Friday (21st) and Saturday (22nd)?

According to Facebook the event is being held from Friday at 10am to Saturday at 6pm. Its a free event, however in order to go you must register for tickets via eventbrite, which I have now done. However, here is where my confusion starts. According to eventbrite the event runs from Friday at 10am and from Saturday at 6pm.

Unsurprisingly the Newsletter doesn't provide any information regarding opening times. It also doesn't mention that you need to register for tickets. Frustratingly you can only register for 1 ticket per request.

The event is open to V festival goers and Stafford residents, however I can't imagine many festival goers registering for tickets beforehad. Therefore, is it really necessary to register for tickets and should people just go down??

I think the tickets are to try playing mandolin or some other string instrument

Sadly the queue for the buses for Weston is not much of a feature these days as the system for transportation has become very efficient

The music though, is frequently wonderful

( just go down and flirt with some Virgins
staff )

Not in any way obviously.
Well, not available to "us", but they surely must have a program of some sort, somewhere, or people wouldn't know when to start strumming, or they might strum together inappropriately.

It can't be too hard to give punters the gist of what should be going on, surely?

Not asking a lot, that's for sures.

Understandable that it is no real concern for those passing through, but i thought that this was being spun as something that is as much for us as it is for them? We might like to know, mightn't we?

I've just been to Q in the park what a huge disappointment and what was the point of registering for tickets? I think the event was n poorly organised and poorly executed. I thought this event was supposed to be some kind of pre festival event. There is absolutely no reason for a v festival to go into the park, let alone stay for any period of time. My wife and I briskly walked through and that was more than enough of my time wasted.

This event offered of offered something different to the recent party in the park, however that was a lot better.

I had expected a more grown up event whereby people could sit and enjoy some quality live music. I didn't expect ' tat' stores, bouncy castles and your usual food outlets.

There was an opportunity to do something really decent. Something worth visiting.

It was absolutely pointless putting on live bands because nobody is going to spend any time there if the only seating provided is a few hard park benches and no decent refreshments.

Why didn't the organisers arrange for more seating areas, an outside bar, marquee and a decent variety of food outlets? Had they done any of those things people would go to the event in the hundreds, rather than the tens and stay in the park for more than a few fleeting minutes.

Please get Chris Lewis involved, through his involvement at the stone food and drink festival and his excellent pop up restaurant he has demonstrated that he can organise and execute a decent event. Had a decent event been organised a few quid could have been charged for entry and it would have been worthwhile registering for tickets.

Harsh

The event was first organised when V festival people had to queue for hours for buses in the park . Because people now arrive earlier and over a longer period the queues no longer form like they used but the event had continued

The organisers are very young and I welcome anyone making an effort to promote live music free of charge anywhere

I'm sure they would appreciate any zero cost ideas for next year

Back to you in the Swan Hotel

I'm all for promoting live music but give them a fighting chance of an audience! The bands have probably played in front of bigger crowds in their own bedrooms.

The basics were not done.

How do I edit this?
Actually I did it yesterday, before the Stray Birds gig & did the other branch on Wolverhampton station (in aid of Oxfam) this morning. I think there was a better crowd at the Stafford end this year than last, with the addition of the bouncy castles. Wolverhampton suffered a bit from being moved from the patch of grass outside the main entrance to one end of platform 1 due to bad weather, which meant there was much less passing trade to throw money in the buckets. Generally I think it's good that someone takes the time to organise it & put it on & that's why I'm happy to give up my time.

& to be fair, there aren't actually seats in front of the stage at Glastonbury, you need to sit on the grass or bring your own...

I think you have misunderstood the raison d'être of the whatsit -
The event was first organised when V festival people had to queue for hours for buses in the park
- which was for what ^he said.

If it is to continue (which ^he reckons doubtful) it probably needs to be 'remastered' as a local event for local people * we'll have no trouble here * what the Q-ees can gawp at a bit on the way through.

Generally, i would have to agree with ^him.
