I learnt how to do crosswords from picking up the almost completed ones me Ma & Pa left unfinished - sometimes i would even go through a Dictionary to find/eliminate the words it could/couldn't be - then i would ask them why it was what it was.
It is a language, of sorts, but one much easier to pick up than the other ones that really are languages - like Klingon or something.
I'm going to stop now to see if anyone else can get any - Ecker and Noah notwithstanding - with what is left. Happy wording!

It also helps that i have quite an extensive vocabulary - and a working knowledge of lateral thinking.
Both of these things, one would argue,are Good Things to be in possession of.
It's probably not much of an exaggeration, if any at all, to credit the discipline of crossword solving for the brace of them.
