Haughton Lights.

Does anyone know if the Christmas lights have gone ahead in Haughton this year?

I do know that the gentleman behind it died this year and it was said that it wouldnt be going ahead.

Having said that, he was also responsible for Best Kept Village and I do know that "his team" did him proud this year.
I was at the presentation in August and there was a few tears shed in memory of him.

So, I just wondered if "his team" and Haughton in general were going ahead with their tradition with the lights this year.

Switch on is the 12th. Plan to be there, il be the one with the limp shouting at the kids to keep on the pavement. Last year it was a nightmare to drive through the village, I was horrified at how many people just stepped into the road unexpectedly.

Sad news this year - but inevitable.

Haughton Lights says -

Hello everyone.
It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this to let you all know that, as a community, we have decided to NOT do the Christmas lights in Haughton this year.
Last year was so manic in the village and we do love seeing it so busy, the little ones faces when they see the lights and raising so much money for the local charities but as each year has proved to be even more popular than the last and we cannot risk it this year with Covid 19.
We have so many vulnerable people living in our village that we wouldn't want to bring any unnecessary risk nor harm to the village.
So unfortunately our display will not be going ahead for 2020, this is the first time in as long as I can remember (I've lived in the village for 26yrs) that we will not be lighting up our village and encouraging visitors.
Fingers crossed that 2021 will be better and we will be able to return with a Christmas light spectacular.
We hope everyone has a lovely and safe, if not very different, Christmas 2020
