Wanted Where Can I Buy A Cheap Car?

I don't wish to be rude, but a failed MOT car is literally worth scrap value on the private market unless it's something particularly special or interesting, and a corsa is not that. A dealer won't even look at it, it will cost them money to scrap it, so I'm sorry to say, part ex is right out the window.

Also, if you're looking to part-ex on a car worth less than a grand, then it wouldn't be in their interest anyway.

Lastly - why a dealer? At £1000 you'll be getting a car they got for free or gave £50 for.
That's ok :) You're not. I (kind of) see your point.

However, I've been offered around £400 trade in for the knackered old thing, which means I could have a slightly newer knackered old thing.... :)

Of course I would LOVE a super new expensive shiny thing, but I have no intention of racking up a load of debt in order to get one. ;)

I don't disagree there, financing an asset which depreciates that quickly isn't often a sensible proposition.... unless you plan on keeping the car for a long time. And modern cars don't last a long time. Some don't even last a short time!

£400 trade in for a (presumably) Corsa B or C which has failed the MOT is a fantastic offer and I would be biting their arm off (I'm genuinely surprised by this!).

On the plus side, £1000 gets you a lot on the used car market in the UK, and some cars are surprisingly reliable - such as G's favourite, the Hyundai Getz.

It won't let me look, but I can see from the heading that its a Getz , I had lessons in one- the controls are all on the wrong sides!
The stalks are on the proper sides! - It's one of the last cars to be the right way round.

Indicators/dipswitch should be at the window side. Like it always used to be.

I didn't know they had cars in prehistoric times! ;)
Do you never watch documentaries?

Try dipping whilst you're changing gear.....

When I had a first generation mx-5 the controls were the wrong way around (Japan spec!)... but my daily was a european car, and i pretty much routinely wiped my windscreen at roundabouts and indicated the hell out of rain every time i swapped between the two.

I had to drive a friend's LHD car in Prague - the stalks were cack-handed, I was sitting on the wrong side, everybody was driving on the wrong side, it was drizzling, I had multiple junctions to negotiate, I had to keep flicking the wipers whilst trying not to flash the headlights and changing gear with the wrong arm whilst trying to avoid accidentally opening the door - at least the pedals seemed normal.

Well I got what I wanted & traded in my old knackered car for a slightly newer one. :)

But, I thought that this info might be useful/interesting to someone...
One of the things I thought about doing was scrapping the Corsa... 2 years ago we scrapped my sons KA & got £100 ....when I asked the price for my Corsa that now only pay £25!!!

I actually thought the bloke was joking & laughed at him & told him I would go elsewhere....(soz bloke) but they said exactly the same & went on to tell me that business is terrible at the moment (price of steel being so low & all the steel manufacturers closing) & that they hardly ever bother to open the yard doors... I had thought that the scrappys weren't coming found due to the change in the law over cash payments....

...shocking!

I'm glad to hear you've managed to do a deal!

Sadly yes, scrap is worthless at the moment, I scrapped a 3 series not so long ago, and also discovered that scrap is worthless - I only got £35.

Resurrecting this again as poor 'Stella' has catastrophically failed her MOT & isn't worth repairing.....
