Says in tonights Express & Star that both Stafford stores could close, as well the 2 in Cannock and others. Hope the one in the Hough Retail Park doesn't close, they are really good at getting the goods out to the front of the shop within a few minutes and I use that a lot. (I've always found the town one crap though). Also says not clear how the Acton Distribution centre is going to be affected. I know a few people who work there.

I don't go into Sainsburys to shop, (only ever nipped in twice for things I couldn't get elsewhere and both times crap customer service) so definitely won't be going in to use an Argos franchise in there .

Considering theArgos' business model, (an alternative to Amazon with easy collection options for those who work and faster delivery) which is pretty successful at the moment, shutting both shops in Stafford and other shops nationwide, seems like a recipe for failure.
I wish somebody would pay me these corporate megabucks to come up with ideas for failure, because I reckon I could do really well.

Whenever I pop into the Hough Argos, it's busy, so unless these people have gone to Argos for a day out without buying anything, then I don't know what's going on.
Could Sainsbury's move into the Morrisons that never was/could never be and that be big enough, for an Sainsgos/Argosbury's?

There are a few things Argos need to do to make shopping easier, the major one though is to browse stock by what is in your nearby stores. I want to be able to say just show me what is in stock in Stafford, don't make me browse for things then have to individually check each item. Screwfix need to do this too, its ludicrous that they don't.

We already have many online only stores, some of us like to pick things up cos we're not at home all day to receive parcels. My amazon orders have dropped since they stopped allowing collection at the co-op.

So you'd put in the sort of thing you want to buy (a printer, say) and as you've previously put in your location, it'd only list items in stock in stores within say 5 miles. Yup .... doesn't sound too difficult.
They'd save themselves a few bob by doing away with the printed catalogue, which is no longer needed with today's internet.

Well they can go and buy a catalogue then.
Seriously, we used to always pick one up whenever there was a new one out. I think we only really used it as a benchmark for prices, before going to check out the thing in Currys or wherever.

Argos is a great format.
It's like shopping online but getting your goods immediately (if in stock) and if it's not what you wanted then you take it back, no packaging an item back up, standing in line at the post office (if you can find one) posting the thing back to be told we lost what you said you sent us or, you can't have a refund til we see the goods and if you do get a refund, it's minus your postage etc etc
Best of both worlds (online and high street) and generally the cheapest shop on the high street, no?

Kind of, I'd want an 'Only show me stuff I can pick up today' option while browsing. That way I see the stock of my nearest argos, not the thousands of items not in stock. Its not hard, in fact there used to be a hidden way to browse sale items by store so they can certainly do it. Hell, I know I can do it, so if I can do it they certainly can!
