1.2 bill?

Is this part of the Stafford Renewed project, first came to sight about 6 or 7 years ago?
Anyone else remember the Stafford Renewed?

For example; Kingsmead's transformation from soulless car park to a modern multi functional living space is integral to meeting the needs and demands of Stafford's growing prosperity and quality of life.
What a lovely combination of bullshit, perhaps that'll jog your memory.
Many of you will know that instead of the above they could have put; Kingsmead, we'll build another supermarket on a car park and hope it works out!

The power is never with the people...etc

Not sure I agree. The new retail space and car parks will be packed, the new houses will be bought and lived in and the roads will be still be grid locked. If the people didn't want it, Stafford would look the same as it did 40 years ago. The town centre won't be a ghost town - it will be different. That may not be what people who remember how it was 40 years ago want, but there is a generation of people who will love the 24/7 pissheads' village it will be in 5 years time.

Which one of the 'people' wanted the Brine Baths knocked down, or the old nurses home demolished, or every single bit of green space built on, or town centre relocated to a shopping shed outside of town or the large spacious leisure centre replaced with a tiny not fit for purpose shed so the council could greedily gobble up prime land? Who voted for that? Because people are forced to use what is provided does not mean they want it like it is.

Doesn't matter how good facilities are in the town centre if people can't get to it easily, they'll go somewhere else.

I'm in favour of the Riverside development, the redevelopment of the St Georges complex and I much prefer the new leisure centre.

Not happy with the large number of attractive buildings that we have lost from Stafford and replaced with crap.

Its very easy to walk to, bit harder to cycle to depending on where you live, and a complete git to drive around. The Isobel Trail is a godsend for cyclists, shame we'll soon have to cross the bypass to get into town though.

I think the Royal Brine Baths were structurally unsafe and the upkeep cost was prohibitive, it happens like that sometimes......

'We' do have the power - the power to grumble about it amongst ourselves and then put up with it.

And 'they' know that.

We also have the power to stop paying council tax on the basis that we're customers and they're not fulfilling their side of the contract. That'll sort them out.l

Yes, one coordinated effort would do it. The same tactic could restore the hospital to full time A&E, too - not to mention terminate the entire council leadership.

Can you expand what you mean here? You're not telling me there is no provision near the new bypass for cyclists? I'd be horrified if true but with this council completely unsurprised. One of the wonderful things about the lines is that I (and many others) can cycle all the way to Sainsburys with my child safely, only having to cross the car park entrances. I wrongly assumes a cyclist safe option would be available when the new by pass was built? And if it isn't, who's going to actually use the lines and dice with a dual carriageway at one end of it? Or am I misundstanding the situation?

That may or not be true, but with our councils track record of getting their own buildings built on prime town centre real estate and destruction of architecturally significant buildings I'm cynical of their motives.............at best!!

The bypass goes between the lines and Sainsburys, you will have to cross the bypass. They said they would make it 'cycle safe' IIRC, so probably traffic lights on the roundabout.

Meanwhile, the track from Doxey end was closed last week.

Was it? I cycled from North end to doxey Road on Thursday? Unless you mean the stretch between doxey Road and sainsbury, that's closed as they are building the new Road on it.
