Conversations in doorways

Why is it that people over a certain age always have conversations in doorways. Today I had to ask 2 couples if they would mind stepping to one side so I could get in to Lidl. Its always the same, they meet somebody and decide to have a chat and are oblivious to blocking peoples way.

Yes one of the women in the group gave me the stare of death for interrupting their chat!

"Oh, do you want to get past?"

"No, I'm just standing here, listening to you two", then I offer some advice on what they should have said when X said so-and-so to them.

I do find it more prevalent in Stafford than elsewhere.

Some entrances, Lidl being a good example, do promote this behaviour amongst the hard-of-thinking.

That's a bit harsh! Next you'll be suggesting that women with pushchairs shouldn't use them as weapons in the town centre and might actually be capable of giving way and manners every now and then.

It is 95% women - maybe they have less peripheral vision?

The pushchair has the same authority as Excalibur.

I find it happens in supermarket aisles too, but I have to say what I find even more annoying are the men who are in my way who follow their wives around town just to carry the shopping I always seem to find them in the women's clothes sections they're like spare parts not knowing where to stand, so often lean against a rail of something I'm trying to get to. To all women when shopping for yourselves, leave your men at home safely parked on an armchair in front of the telly with a newspaper and beer, they'll stay there until you get home so won't make any mess and you will be able to buy things that they'll never know about, bonus!

I totally agree as this is my primary role when dragged out shopping. I would be sooo happy with a beer and watching the footie. I really dont want to be dragged round shops, waiting for her to try crap on then putting it back, then trying it on again then, oh im not sure, what do you think, i think ill leave it, ill just try theese other six outfits on, no i dont like them they arent right, lets go somewhere else. And why is it a woman will always want to get at something where you are standing, give you a death stare like youve just chucked a bag of kittens in the trent, and tut and huff at you? If you women just bought something in your size instead of trying on the next size down first just incase all those takeaways have made you loose a few pounds you wouldnt get blokes standing about looking for something to kill themselves with.:bum:

There are somethings men and women should not do together simples, I just don't think clothes shopping is one of them, by all means head out together, men go one way and women the other do your thing and them meet at agreed location for coffee or lunch, saves any death stares or suicidal thoughts and awkward questions about does my bum look big in this (you know thats the make or break question for how the rest of your weekend could go right?) I feel your stress I can tell you enjoyed the last sentence you posted, like you had something to get off your chest but take it from me the next time you're out shopping with the wife just don't mention the takeaways, otherwise you won't need anything to kill yourself with as I'm sure she'll do it for you.

Well, that's tickled me! So, why do you go clothes shopping with your wife or partner? Personally, I can't bear clothes shopping, so I can see why most men hate it.

Will the new shopping centre have a man-crèche?

I think one of the reasons some women take men with them shopping is because they cannot drive. Just before Christmas I observed a woman trying on a dress and asking her husband what he thought about it. He told her it looked *nice* when it was obviously too small and didn't suit her at all. I prefer to shop alone or to take a friend with me because at least you will get an honest opinion.

I always give my honest opinion to my wife if she asks me about clothes. If I don't like something or think it doesn't suit her I'll tell her. In the end though, she buys what she wants as it's her decision.

As for conversations in doorways, it happens, just ask the people to move politely or alternatively shout "get out the f*****g way you b******s" and they should move for you.
