Anyone on Wildwood with virgin fibre? What speeds are you getting? We are moving to Wildwood next week and currently have sky fibre I get 30down and 10up. We aim to move to virgin march / April time
Hi Virgin doesn't work like that if it is available in your area you pretty much get the speed you purchase.

Virgin sell fibre too, you get pretty much what everyone else offers because you are the same distance from the same box in the street regardless of who you pay.

I pay for the 50 meg service which I recently applied for the free upgrade as per this thread. I now get a good 70 down but only 5 up. Perfectly good enough for what I need to be fair... Does the physical cable from Virgin Media still come into your house as copper ? ( a hybrid fibre-Coaxial )

It's fibre to the cabinet, then phone line to your house. it's a bit like adsl, but instead of distance to the exchange determining speed it's to the cabinet which is much closer.

Gotcha

I shall be writing to my MP and the Advertising Standard people which I am sure will result in the advertisements changing overnight

Fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) and then a coaxial connection from the cabinet to your house. Much better than a phone line, but nevertheless still false advertising really as they do make it sound like a fibre-optic cable enters your home. The coaxial cable should handle much higher speeds than what we currently have access to today though so doesn't really make a difference. A single fibre powers dozens and dozens of homes so I can't see that coming directly into houses in the near future.

Does the Virgin tivo still need to be hard wired? My OHs Street just got cabled and they offered her a pretty good deal.

Couldn't tell you mate - but if our YouView and Roku boxes are anything to by, then I'd personally recommend hardwiring even if wireless is an option. There's nothing worse than buffering when you're engrossed in a film or tv show. It's not of course just down to actual speed package you're on but also the wifi signal itself and lets face it.... virgin's routers are far from the most dependable when it comes to wifi signal!

To be fair to Virgin the WiFi signals on there new routers I've found to be rock solid night and day diffrence from the superhub 1 that can only be described as total pants.

I'm just updating from BT business broadband to Virgins 50MB fibre which I've got for £16 a month, thought that was pretty decent to be fair. Got free DIY installation which should be fun :). The kit arrives on Saturday so I'll let you know how I go, or don't go lol

One thing that was disappointing is that Virgin would only let me add BB to my package if I updated my Virgin box to a TIVO. Given the mass of negative TIVO reviews I'm not really sure this is a positive move ? Anyone got any good things to say about the latest TIVO box?

That seems like a good deal. My parents have the new TIVO box and it's been fine so far.

Nothing wrong with Tivo but I prefer my old Samsung V+HD box and the way the software worked. It was easier to use in my opinion.

Installing Virgin Broadband is easy, I've done it a couple of times. Even installed the old V+HD box as well.

I'm wondering if once the TIVO arrives if I can just not install it. Hmmmm

We've not long changed to Virgin and had the DIY installation, it's not as bad as it sounds. seem to remember you ring them to activate it then it's just a case of putting everything together - but the instructions are easy to understand, although everything in the box does look a bit daunting!
The Tivo box is great by the way, highly recommend it and not had a single problem.
