Rugby Club progress...

The need to move is purely financial, the rugby club is surrendering it's lease so the owner can build houses there. From what I can see this is entirely by choice, as the lease still has a long time left (25 years?).

Moving at all is a want not a need, as is destroying the marshes. They want more pitches, they want a bigger clubhouse and more floodlights.

It's all down to greed really.

the board of Stafford Rugby Club, nor any committee or other enterprise associated with Stafford Rugby Club. I was very clear yesterday and hopefully have been clear today.

I thinks MAL is trying to be clever , getting a pal to resign from the board , so there is no wrong doing on this application , Poor Mr Hill , after doing all the leg work filling in grant forms , steering the club in good stead , tailoring the leisure plan for Stafford to favour the Rugby Club over others clubs in the town . He has resigned from a post that gives him dividends . Pull the other one do you honestly think us Staffordians are stupid ?

its soon to be a football pitch and yes it is used by st leonards rugby

A football pitch for who? Despite working for the college I have no idea if our sports students use it!

I assume the rugby club will let St Leonards use their facilities? You know, for the good of the community and all that. After all, they want to help tackle childhood obesity etc. and to not only do it for just one sport but also only for one club is a tad exclusionist given the rhetoric currently being used to justify the move. If they give a crap about anything other than themselves they'd offer to help, surely?

Whata thread! incredible these troughing ****** s think they can get away with divertig public money into private buisinesses.. If his lordship is looking for somewhere to play rugby theres enough room for 50 pitches outside Swinnerton hall

Quite frankly I don't know how the people who approve this move sleep at night, it's a total and utter disgrace and another insult to the people of Stafford, what kind of person approves the destruction of a nature reserve in favour of a new rugby club!

If his choice of avatar is any indication of this individual's attitude to the little people who have had the temerity to criticise this murky affair, it would indeed appear to be the case that he considers himself as clever as those who are unimpressed by this entertaining tableau - 'Cronyism in the Shires Thwarted', perhaps, after Hogarth - are stupid.

It's a passport photo, not an avatar.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Directors have a salary and get a share of the profits made in the form of dividends , I don't think for one minute one would be a director for free ! Or the love of any sport and looking at the books The club is indeed profitable
There is a difference between being a director and a shareholder. Neither is necessarily remunerated. Have you seen the company accounts?

Or is this yet more smoke?

Because compared to most other stunts the planning authorities have pulled over the years this is quite small beer.

I don't understand why our town is being bulldozed when there are so many empty businesses even the old council building is left standing whilst money has been thrown at the new one, seems to be that's their answer, just to throw money at the problem and dispose of the issues. I dread to think how much money has been wasted over the years.

Too new to have accounts, or even a Nature of Business. Paid or not, it's still a conflict with being a council employee. Directors have a duty to act in the best interests in the company, which would often involve acting against the interests of the council, the people we pay to act in our interest.

Sites have been searched and no alternate sites available. TW has no interest in the current site so not entirely sure what this means. TW are developing Burleyfields. Lord Lichfield has no interest in either site. Obviously planning conditions need to be discharged

The Rugby Club is currently located on land owned by THE RIGHT HONOURABLE FRANCIS MELFORT WILLIAMBARON STAFFORD of Swynnerton Park, Stone, Staffs. The Rugby Club is moving to land owned by THE RIGHT HONOURABLE FRANCIS MELFORT WILLIAMBARON STAFFORD of Swynnerton Park, Stone, Staffs.

Part of the land used by the Rugby Club has been now been acquired by Kier Ventures Ltd (Land reg SF458077). (Apologises, I thought this land had been acquired by TW).

MAL - has this developer discussed with the Rugby Club about the possibility of them constructing or funding a new club house and associated infrastructure?

As you so eloquently and at length point out the Land is owned by Lord Stafford and not Lord Lichfield as was suggested in previous post. I am aware of no land being acquired.

The rugby club has a site the current one it is on, I don't get the need to move (I've probably missed something as this isn't a thread I've followed religiously) however if it's because the current site has been sold for housing, then it's the owners of the clubs stupid fault for selling and I don't see why doxey marshes should be dug up for something that apparently only has a 60 year lifespan due to flood risks. It's rugby get over it, there are plenty of pitches that are stood empty half the week riverside, cotton fields, beaconside, surely it would made better environmental sense to use one of them. It's just a complete waste of money, money that could be better spent on the local health service or even improving the roads to ease the traffic congestion and not destroying the local wildlife and trees just so a funny shaped ball can be kicked about - ridiculous!
The main attraction of a move is the ability to secure a long term site on a 999 year lease. Any talk of 60 years is a total red herring. The main pitches are above the 1 in 100 year flood line and the lower above the 1 in 20 year flood line. They will flood some times this is not an issue - this happens elsewhere and is fine. The main pitches will not flood. Please do not be mislead by people seeking to misuse data. The aim is to build a community sports facility that will support the town for a very long time.

MAL - are really claiming that land that you use for Rugby has been sold to a developer and you don't know anything about it? I very much doubt that.
