Just joined this site. Worried as Nick Paine -All your chimney needs- installed a wood burner & cleaned my chimneys in 2012. We haven't used the chimneys since. He did leave a right mess tbh, less than our normal sweep. What happened with him & why was he struck off HETAS? and who would anyone recommend to come and check the installation etc and sweep our chimneys and possibly put liners in? TIA

Hello, did you ever get his worked checked out? I hope your stove is now safe. Did you speak to trading standards? I have the number of the gentlemen who has his case on file if you require any help with this.

Amateurish website, updated ages ago and a very poor use of French.

Gotta be him...
Yes it is him , and yes he has run into trouble again, as such bad workmanship it was condemned ! He is being taken to court and trying to bully people. So it seems no change !

After that, quite a lot of the posts were deleted.

After that,
Oops! That page can't be found.

Interesting that there was as much discussion about French libel laws than there was about our dear old Nick 'paine in the arse' Paine, before the kibosh was put on it.

Still, we had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun etc
The website is based in Oxfordshire. People reading it in France do so at their own peril.

The really interesting (is this right, Ed?) thing about the whole exchange was that the initial enquiry was essentially asking a simple question - vis is there a French equivalent to some sort of ratemybuilder.com, or whatever.

Essentially the answer seemed to be a resounding NO!

The reason being that any questioning of professional impropriety would open the accuser up to allegations of libel. This would appear, from the outside, to be somewhat of a 'shitty' state of affairs. Especially when we know for an absolute FACT that the French are, on the whole, a bunch of cnuts.

If nothing else, we have learned that Mark Jackson - of GEO Build fame - has a new lease of life awaiting him in Normandy if/ when it goes all 'tits up' for him here.

It is the patriotic duty of all Englishmen to maintain an outward enmity to the French at every available opportunity.

Whether it be feigned or not.
In an effort to restore international relations, and as a non-Englishman, can I say that my limited interactions with French tradesmen would lead me to the opposite conclusion - and, a lot of the comments in the deleted thread were bemoaning the actions of other ex-pat tradesmen, not just 'our friend'...

Enjoying a drop of red.

As a user of an internet forum it is my right, duty and expectation to take offence, virtue signal and call out anyone expressing any views whatsoever that do not precisely mirror my own, at every opportunity.

Whether they be feigned or not.
