Sandon Road roadworks, June 2016.

Just had a letter from the beloved Severn Trent - they are going to close Sandon Road as soon as Weston Road re-opens..

Oh! Joy!

They will be ripping up the pristine surface between Fairfield Court and Henry Street, although they have already slung four trenches across that bit. It will be interesting to see if they fix the bit of surface subsidence that is probably due to their drain...

The suggested diversion is - Beaconside, Weston Road, Queensway, Gaol Road being the route between the two severed parts of Sandon Road - of course, people will just (try to) use the Oxford Gardens contraflow. Get some spare door mirrors in.....

The actual date is up-in-the-air as yet, of course.

There is an information display in Sandon Road Baptist Church from 4pm to 7pm tomorrow, if you can manage the short notice.

The work will involve running a pipe right across the Common - and, I expect, though it isn't made clear, through the Astonfields Balancing Lakes.

We've had a letter too, although it doesn't say just how it will effect us....brilliant notice for the meeting - a whole 24hrs!

They're not really trying to stop you going, they could have had it somewhere really weird, like Chebsey Village Hall, and then dug up all the roads on the way...

I presume all the planning for this happened on Monday and they haven't had much time to sort it out.

Note - I have put 'June' in the thread title - this is likely to change, as their 'timetable' is somewhere around June to December for these works.

Oxford gardens is a nightmare as it is for travelling down, I tend to avoid it where possible and go all the way down sandon rd and shoot across Fonthil Rd whenever possible, I always have this scary vision that someone will open a car door when on the odd occasion I brave Oxford gardens.

Someone did this too me when I was on my bike. Went flying as I tried to avoid. Now go down the back lanes.

I have hit two children, running out between cars, both on Oxford Gardens.

I have hit three car doors that were flung open in front of me, all on Sandon Road.

All this when riding a bicycle.

I was run over by a pushbike once I came off lightly compared to the poor bloke on the bike who flew over the handle bars!

Just north of Charnley Road? Were you following your older brother that I just managed to miss.....?

No it was by river way, although by your description it sounds as though it could have been me, as I was often found trailing behind my brother, in that area, as he was usually trying to escape from me.

Signs have appeared now, promising a twelve week full closure, starting on September 6th (I think), between Charnley Road and Henry Street.
