To get back to doom, the group of disruptive imbibers loitering on the path to the dilapidated Riverside council office at 10am hardly conveys a positive message for the town.

I'm guessing that pop80_uk is female as the men's section appears to be a complete afterthought tucked away taking up less than a third of the upstairs. The children's and home section swamp it. Disappointed.

Men's sections almost always are - in the charity shops, they're mostly at the far end and you have to struggle past all the obstructions to get there, if you can be bothered.

I haven't looked but has a designated smoking shelter been provided?

They obviously know their market and will stock accordingly, but I don't think I've seen such an excessive imbalance. Men, in general, do tend to wear something until there are more holes than material left, but I was hoping for a little more choice. The one in Manchester is great for men's, and although still not comparable to its female counterpart in terms of floor space, there is still a good selection. The Birmingham one is crap, as is the one in Stoke and Wolverhampton.

It's not all bad. If I do decide to go back to Manchester, I'll make sure the German market's on at the same time!

Went into the new Primark this evening, I have to admit to being impressed both the size and stock and in particular the fit and finish which is really good. They have made a really good job of the layout and it looks really nice.

I would actually say it felt and looked more premium than the Marks store and if you took away the signage you would think that marks was the budget store from the shop fittings

Good addition for Stafford
There is one thing the new M&S doesn't look and that is 'budget' whatever Primark may look like.

I'm in the Primark at the moment and it looks as budget as every other Primark I've been in....

So the new shopping centre is a huge success and crowds are flocking to the area. Can we assume that the units under Starffod Place will be in huge demand, and that the council will now have to spend a few more £millions relocating the library to somewhere with space to waste on books?

Enjoying a drop of red.

Town was VERY busy up until 4ish yesterday, even the area north of Market Square, though not as busy, was busier than I've seen it for years. The best bit was that the majority of people seemed to be carrying bags of purchases (and not just from Primark).

I've noticed town to be busier in the week as well, which can only be a good thing in relation to filling empty units in the months ahead.

A follow on from the increased trade seems to be people parking in asda and walking over. Saturday afternoon was manic for getting a parking space at asda.... More so than normal

Asda' s car park was manic this afternoon too but not that busy in store, and the Waterfront car park had plenty of spaces, so I can only assume people are parking there and walking over rather than pay the £1 Sunday charge.

As for the new Primark, I liked it. Good size, good selection, friendly staff.

Let us hope that the new shopping centre will continue to be busy and it draws new people to Stafford. Let us also hope that it encourages people to explore the rest of the town as well as the shopping centre.

Well the green doesn't make much sense as the council down own it and it doesn't take a genius to click that it is stupid to pay astronomical rent to store some books when they can hardly afford social care and looking after the vulnerable

The shirehall is a different matter though.
