Virgin speed update

TiVo can be a bit slow at times when switching menus but it doesn't seem any slower/quicker than the Sky box my Mum has.

Any one know where the nearest fibre BT green box is on the Eccleshall Road near to the old Brooklands School?

Can't find a map unfortunately, but when you put in your details at BT they tell you what speeds to expect which should indicate roughly how close you are.

Finally installed my new TIVO box and Virgin BB, they arrived beofre christmas but I just couldn't face the disruption!. Instantly clear that the TIVO box is utter w*nk :) compared to the old Samsung box I had, but got it working without issue. Depsite connecting everything correctly the BB was another matter and requried 2 calls to Vitgin tech support to get everything working correctly as they had to send some settings or something. That wasn't in the set up guide!!! Anyways, although it's 50mb BB i'm actually getting 56mb up and 3mb down so pretty happy wiht that. Have to say Virgin support are very helpful and efficient.

You always have to ring Virgin when setting up a new box or router so they can activate it and, like you said, send settings to it.

Can anyone get the catch up tv on Virgin? It's been coming up as a fault on my box for ages now.

Mine looks OK at the moment though it was a bit flaky a few weeks back to the extent that I think there was a gap of a few days for one of the channels.

Have you tried a re-boot?

Yet in the instructions it clearly states to activate by phone, which I did, before starting the set up. It doesn't say, activate prior to starting and then ring when it doesn't work!! It says, activate before starting, connect together and ker ching! which is patently not the case!

All the VM boxes or routers I've installed have been activated after installation.

Last year when I had TiVo installed the technician installed the boxes then activated them.

Nope, not any more.

Page 1. Step 1: STOP! Please call our automated ativation line now - which I did!!

No mention in any of the leaflets about ringing AFTER installation to acitvate. But numerous mentions of ringing the automated activation line on both the front cover page and page 1, of one booklet, and front page and page 1, of the other booklet. And like I said, nowhere does it mention ringing to get settings downloaded after, and I read the leaflets cover to cover before starting :)

Anyways it's all working and superfast so no problems, apart from the wanky Tivo box that I was forced to have :D

You've told me why it didn't work as soon as you said "automated". They aren't worth the phone call. When I activated the V+HD box it was supposed to be automated but wasn't. Ended up on the phone for an hour due to the dopey "technician" who answered my call not knowing what the hell they were doing. Seven years ago now so good to know Virgin have improved things. Not.
