Stafford Half Marathon 2017

Takes place on Sunday with a 14.2857142857% increase in runners

The course has an unusual element to it this year as a reference to The Beatles who competed in the first half marathon in 1964.

Runners will travel along North Castle Street entering terrace houses by their front doors to emerge further down the street from different homes .

More roads closed and traffic diverted, as if there isn't enough of that already.

Why can they not run round a field or a running track rather expecting everybody to take massive diversions to accommodate them?

Am running, not for Headway. Have knocked too many times on people doors with requests, so am planning a big challenge for next year, 55, 10 years post accident, very much alive & kicking! Watch this space!

Most people don't even get out of bed before it's all cleared away on a Sunday.

The rest understand that for half of one day per year it does more good than harm.

Not a ref to hopes dad. I loathe our fellow townsfolk that criticise the half marathon. Plough the energy into supporting the runners not complaining about 2 hours disruption.

It is not just 2 hours disruption though is it. It is at least half a day. I am in effect a prisoner in my own house for that half day. All the roads near me are closed or disrupted. That in addition to just about every road into and out of Stafford already being dug up. And for what? So a crowd of people with too much time on their hands, half of whom don't even live in Stafford, can run round and show off, and our pitiful failing council can rave on yet again about what a wonderful place Stafford is, in the hope of hiding the fact that it is disintegrating day by day.
As I said earlier, there is no reason whatsoever why they could not run round a field - Rowley park stadium was designed for it, Stafford rangers ground would do, they could have run round the grounds if shugborough had the council not given that away too.

With the general amount of disruption that we have inflicted on us daily, we might not even notice this short-term extra, if they didn't tell us..?
