Only in Stafford!
Only in Stafford!

Only in Stafford!

Only in Stafford!

In depth research without any negativity. The hallmarks of another quality post on Stafford Forum.

Stone, Telford, Wolverhampton, Stoke, Crewe, to name but five local towns where housing estates exit onto higher-speed bypasses. I'm sure there are many other towns locally where this is the case but, frankly, life is to short to bother.

Experts? Who needs experts? How did we manage with them?

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Most housing estates don't empty directly onto a 50 mph road used as a bypass. Only in Stafford!
Take a look at Eastern Avenue in Lichfield. Loads more entrances/exits from housing estates than on Beaconside.

It might not be totally bonkers as reducing the speed limit on a congested road will probably improve traffic flow and reduce the queues at the ends. Or it might not ;)
if it was a variable speed limit based on traffic volumes/density then I would agree with you but this limit will be enforced 24/7.this road doesn't have a high accident rate so it difficult to argue it would provide a measurable improvement in road safety. it looks to me that the speed limit is being reduced because somebody in an office thought it looked good on paper.

Whilst I don't disagree with you on this, I have to say that during the day many drivers don't do more than 30 on there already so the de facto speed limit is that already.

Frustratingly.

Or... As the area noth of the road becomes a built-up residential area, I guess the limit will become 30mph from the A34 to the Barracks. As it will become a residential road and no longer a 'distributor' road.

Wigan to Luton then a 200 yard gap then onto the coast - ribbon development followed by infill. Cash from chaos - all land readied for the big boom .

It's already a 40 limit for 400 yards from the Weston Road roundabout up to a point between Gladstone Way and the little-used southern camp entrance. A few more incidents at Portal Road and Borona Way will probably see that zone extended.

Just a matter of time, I cannot see it maintaining its current 50 mph speed limit, especially as we now have the Army quarters (as you mention). As for the 40 mph zone, I can see that being reduced due to the volume of school children now crossing the road.
