Have your say on Victoria Park.

I walked past the Park at a little after 6pm today. There were three active skateboarders and about five or six sitting chatting/smoking. There were two 5 or 6-year-olds in the sand and that was it.

Returning about 30 minutes later, the actual children had bee replaced by two teenaged girls, larking about on the wobbly bridge thing.

Perhaps a little after peak time, but it was a nice evening.
You could've had a climb on the 'rope pyramid thing'

Go on, you know you want to.

Now that I've realised how quiet it gets......

..I might have to borrow a child as an excuse..

"I was just showing them how to do it safely".
I've got 1 you can borrow. He's 26 and looks like Jesus, but he's a big kid at heart.

The discussion wasn't about social issues though was it.. When you replied to my question asking you to back up the statement that other towns would love to have a park like Stafford you stated Stoke + Leek. I then showed, with evidence, that Stoke (The Potteries) had multiple fabulous Grade 2 listed parks. At this point you brought in social problems. But that isn't what was being discussed. You brought social problems into your argument becuase I'd proved you wrong.

I'll reiterate. Staffords park is too small for the numbers using it, and spending money on it won't change that. Secondly, almost every town in England has a Victorian Park of equal facilites to the one in Stafford.

You need to raise you aspirations if you think there is anything outstanding about Stafford. it's a meh place, with meh facilities (sh*te leisure centre), average schools, but which is expceptionally well positioned to be able to leave for other places. Housing is cheap too, which backs up all my other opinions of Stafford, as desireable places to live have expensive housing - supply and demand you see.

As a regular user of the Lesuire Centre I'm not sure how anyone could call it shite? The gym was refitted with new equipment just a year ago (although attendance has slumped due to the cheaper alternatives arriving), classes are popular, the pool is very well used and holds regular galas, and the sports facilities like the hall/squash courts are regularly in use. It more than fills the needs of a town of this size.

I'm a Stokie originally, although from my accent you'd never know it. It's worth pointing out that calling Hanley part of Stoke is accurate, historically and colloquially, and anyone calling it Stoke would know what you mean. Hanley is one of the six federated towns that make Stoke. Incidentally,
Hanley Park is a dive. It might be pretty in parts on the outside but this belies the fact it sits in the unfortunate position next to the absolute dive that is Shelton. Tunstall park looked beautiful last year when I sat there to eat an outcake.

I don't agree that the park is too small. I think the children's play area and skate bowl are well used and it's actually nice to see crowds of people there. No one is getting hurt by the popularity, and infact a large group of teenagers in one place doing something social and healthy, should be celebrated in an age when kids are mercilessly castigated for being incapable of gathering somewhere without behaving illegally.

Do I think Stafford is outstanding? No. Do I think there are towns of similar size that are worse? Undoubtedly.

The Play Park was well used today, and not as crowded as it might have been.

I did see this chap using it on the way round the back of the Windmill.

And the ducks certainly appreciate the fact that the river is weir.d, after a dry spell.

Slightly overcast day and no splash pad - Master Wearn made good use of the park for a couple of hours today - favouring the swings, skate park and most of all the sand pit (and has clocked up plenty of hours in the last week) It's such an asset to the town and I often hear non local accents backing up it's claims of being a destination park for a much wider area.

I may have to borrow him as cover one day, so I can have some sort of excuse for having a go on it all - especially the rope-pyramid thing.

I'll admit to having had little faith in what was going to happen when the plans were proposed, but it is way beyond what I expected.

You'd be very welcome - you just need to be speedy to keep him away from the yoofs with their alluring plant based cigarettes and the hippity-hop.

He went to play with some random child and his dad for ages earlier.

I expect any day now he'll successfully scale the rope contraption / terrifying slide only to not be able to get down and @Goldilox will have to work out a way to rescue him

Mmm, now that it has been established that there is a substantial risk of a rescue mission being needed in the near future, it is only sensible that some practice ascents should occur, before the full emergency is upon us.

How do I edit this?

He did manage to make his way to the second tier of the big slide on Thursday. I was anticipating needing to make an ascent to recover him, but he managed to clamber back down to the first floor where I could grab him from the rope bridge exit...

Be careful, I'm not getting you down, as well.
