New for Stafford Festival in 2017, Stafford Castle's Summer Sunday promises to give all the family a fun and relaxed afternoon in the grounds of Stafford's most famous landmark.

Not to be confused with Live @ Stafford Castle...

If i were @basil i would probably, about here, be predicting a riot.

It is not what it was, it is something 'different'.

Probably not quite as 'different' as 'half-a-Battersea-Power-Station' is to an whole Battersea Power Station. Probably not quite getting the inference there.

Curtailed perhaps? It certainly is that.

A 'licensed bar' being the only alcohol dispensing outlet, with a ban on 'BYO'?
  1. Locked amnesty bins will be located at the entry points for seized items.
  2. Restricted items not to be brought on to site include: alcohol, illegal substances and glass containers, laser pens, weapons and sharp objects, BBQ’s, flares, fireworks and sparklers, (this is not an exhaustive list)

This is not an exhaustive list...

You seem to know much that is 'up there'...

Could you advise on the opera please?

It says start time is 6.30pm but it dunna say finish time....

Is one permitted entrance with bottled water ?.....

Take a tip from an expert...

In the meantime, while you are looking for one, why not stash your 23% scrumpy in the woods ala Forest Rangers trail stylee?

Then retrieve on the big day

Lots of chatter yesterday at the party in the park (Master wearn and I did wave at you from the little train @Withnail but I'm not sure you saw us) that lots of people were going to 'boycott the castle this year because they can't just go up there and get slaughtered on teir own booze' - If the not attendees are the kind of people I'm thinking of nice work Stafford BC and we should be in for a nice event.

@Goldilox is busy playing a gig somewhere but Master Wearn and I will probably pop over if the weather looks good.

My understanding is that the 'new format' has somewhat been thrust upon the event.

After last year's shenanigans - and shenanigans there were aplenty - and a terse meeting with the organisers and security team post-said-shenanigans, the Police have essentially enforced the changes that have been made to 'allow' it to go ahead.

This is, in many ways, not massively surprising.

I blame the rave tent for last years (and previous years) increasing violence.
I have been attending near on 10 years now and it used to be just the main stage - everyone gathered there and had fun.
The introduction of the rave tent down the bottom of the hill is more hidden and private - there has been more drug use and underage drinking.

Didn't go this year - really gutted at the changes - I usually meet up with lots of friends from school (some of them I only see once a year at the castle!) but no ones interested in paying £5 to get it to a kiddy event that charges £4.50 a pint.

Interested to know what it was like?

@Goldilox had a gig at an odd time so we hit the park as opposed to head up the the castle - but the stuff I saw on Facebook looked like a much friendlier event then previous ones, and plenty of people I knew that don't have kids enjoying the music and the sunshine.

I've been to plenty of Castle events since moving here 10 years ago, often to the bitter end, and increasingly the air had turned menacing later into the evening so anything that negates that is a good thing in my eyes.

Which would be an entirely 100% correct analysis.

Yes, this would appear to be problematical - it heaved not, as oftentimes it hath heaved before.
Interested to know what it was like?
Well first of all, it was essentially like paying £5 to get in to a kiddy event that charges £4.50 a pint.

Second of all, it was also very much like continuing to have payed £5 to get in to a kiddy event that charges £4.50 a pint.

Third of all it wasn't all that bad, considering it had been £5 to get in to a kiddy event that charges £4.50 a pint.

It was certainly mucho más tranquilo, but then i am old, and will die soon anyway.
