I've stopped going to the Shrewsbury Arms since the Bird in Hand opened. I suspect I'm not alone.

I've been going to the BiH more than my usual local, The Railway! It's more expensive (and I drink cider in the Bird cos I don't like their lagers and am an ale philistine), but I really like the place. The bar staff are also very nice and always up for a chat.

I went there quite a lot in its previous incarnation, but now they've given it a makeover (in more ways than are immediately obvious), it's my go-to pub for a couple of afternoon beers. Being self-employed, my pub time is generally a couple of hours between 3 and 7. This fits the bill very nicely.

We still go the shrew, but nowhere near as much. The shrew is opposite my OHs work, the bird is opposite mine, so we use both. Tbh though the bih is my favourite now.

We popped into Shrewsbury Arms after the Reginald D Hunter show at the Gatehouse in may... It was late on a Saturday night but I was amazed how"shouty" the place was....I don't do it much but don't have any intentions of returning...

Whilst walking past St Mary's church en route to the train this morning I noticed two men with a Staffy behind.

I wasn't sure whether the Staffy was with them or not but I was sure it was Haribo from the Bird (which hadn't opened yet). So I waited til I got past them asked them if the dog was theirs and called his name. Sure enough he came running straight up to me and followed me back to the pub to be let in to the beer garden via the garage gate.

Hubby was told by a work colleague that it's serving black country food ,like grey peas (peys):and bacon. Is that correct ?
He wants to go there for his birthday night out ( as well as The Sun & for some reason The Shrew , where he's never been)
