Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

No loss really.

Quite. Never been there but the anecdotal experience I’ve heard from my wife is the staff started cleaning before the credits even finished, went “oh there’s no after-credit skit, don’t bother” and the lights had come on before the film even finished.

Been there today with 4 kids in tow - perfectly warm! Don’t get me wrong I’m very much looking forward to the new one opening, it’s just a shame we have nothing to fill the gap between now and then.

Fair enough, just heard some people moaning about it, heating is faulty or something?

Probably wrong anyway, but at least there's a nice new cinema on it's way, it does need a good upgrade :)

I have read and heard some dumb remarks in my time, this is up there with the best of them.

Market has been in decline for years because of the lack of much that is worthwhile. It is very tatty
The heating alone needs an upgrade, it's very 80s.

Yes but, in this instance, they probably have a point. Can't see the new owners having any interest in the PC, never mind investing in it, can you?

Make a good town house/flats/sheltered accomodation/care home complex if flattened. Choices might well be interested in it.

No it is absurd to spend that amount of money in it as there us no way they would recoup in a land sale.

Whether they improve facilities is another matter. I guarantee, 20 years from now the potteries centre will still be standing. It needs to be as hanley is in the top 5 of empty town/ city centres in the country. Without the centre Hanley is well and truly gone

Curious, how much do you use amazon or similar? I'm not a millenial, not entirely sure what I am as was born in the 70s but a geek, but I hate shopping for anything but food and amazon has saved me from even attempting to. I spend more with them than any other retailer, by far. Probably by a factor of 4 or 5!
I'm the same, I spend far too much money on Amazon lol I think I might have a shopping problem. I JUST NEED TO SPEND!

:embarrass: just read this after checking my Amazon parcel tracking , I think it's because I need to justify my prime subscription.

It's a ghost town, surely only Gareth believes anything different? Went late night 'shopping' last night. Stafford north was empty, shops, streets, a more soulless christmas retail experience would be hard to find. Bought something in Salter street toys, but from Gaol Square end up to the Guildhall may as well all close down. Millets should have moved further south. All I needed was some ordinary ladies socks and an Ordnance survey map of Cambridge, gave up in the end. Very sad.

I don't disagree, however, almost every town is the same. Shops want different configuration that older buildings just don't give them. Lots of living and restaurants is the way town centres need to go I believe.
