As a user of an internet forum it is my right, duty and expectation to take offence, virtue signal and call out anyone expressing any views whatsoever that do not precisely mirror my own at every opportunity.

Whether they be feigned or not.

;)
That is exactly how the Nazis started.

The really interesting (is this right, Ed?) thing about the whole exchange was that the initial enquiry was essentially asking a simple question - vis is there a French equivalent to some sort of ratemybuilder.com, or whatever.

Essentially the answer seemed to be a resounding NO!

The reason being that any questioning of professional impropriety would open the accuser up to allegations of libel. This would appear, from the outside, to be somewhat of a 'shitty' state of affairs.
It would seem that our situation is little better, in a practical sense - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-42783279

Is this a threatened action by a disgruntled customer or is there a court date set?

Date set, in fact it will be the second visit !
Please can you provide us with the detail as that business is closed and has been for 18 months. The only outstanding court issue on this matter is €40,000 of unpaid artisans fees by a mother and daughter. This matter is being dealt with by the French courts, there are no other cases on record. You obviously live in a fantasy world like « Game of Thrones » you really need to be truthful and provide evidence before issuing racist commentary. Shame on you, not all French people are c@£€s, this is really not very proper, and in France evidence like this can be used in court proceedings

Hi Genuine Norman, welcome to Stafford Forum. :)

I can see how you might misinterpret @Withnail's post as xenophobic, but it was done tongue-in-cheek - if anything he was having a dig at "Little Englanders", the tendency of pro-Brexit types to hold antiquated, racist views (French are rude, Germans are Nazis, etc.) that ordinary, rational types know are nonsense stereotypes. @Gramaisc even responded to Withnail's post by saying that his dealings with French "artisans", as you put it (great word), were entirely positive!

Sorry for any offence caused; it is easy to misconstrue British humour, especially in text form!

Interesting that there was as much discussion about French libel laws than there was about our dear old Nick 'paine in the arse' Paine, before the kibosh was put on it.

Ah, this might explain the myriad reported posts from Genuine Norman, making liberal use of the word "libel". Like you say, laws are different in this country, and I can't see any being broken in this thread.

Even so, if there really are ongoing legal cases, it might be best to keep posts as factual as possible going forward, or if personal opinion / sarcasm / hyperbole / etc. are being used it should be clearly stated.

Merci beaucoup, mes amis. :)
