Granny's Attic in the market isn't closing after all. They are reducing the size of the stall and concentrating on jewellery, but it's saying open yay!!

Stafford’s Kingsmead Retail Park is set to expand after plans for a new McDonald's were revealed.

Around 65 jobs would be created under the plans for a two-storey restaurant and drive-thru at the retail park next to the A34.

If the proposals submitted by developers Triple Jersey Limited are approved, the Kingsmead restaurant would become McDonald's third store in less than a one-mile radius

The fast food giant already has stores nearby in Greengate Street and off Eccleshall Road.

The proposed store would offer around 35 full-time jobs and 30 part-time roles.

The new building would be built on part of the surface-level car park, which is now vacant after previously serving the town centre.

The retail park was empty for a year after Morrisons pulled out of the development in 2016, in a blow to local businesses as the car park remained closed.

But a B&M home store opened in August, followed by an Aldi supermarket in November. Just for Pets is set to open but a date has not yet been confirmed.

Councillor Chris Baron said: “It will hopefully encourage people to come into the town.

“When Morrisons left Kingsmead Retail Park, it had a big impact on the shops here.

"There are some lovely little shops and ever since B&M has come back into the retail park I can see the cafes are starting to look quite full again.

“The amount of jobs is good and McDonald's give good training for people.

"A lot of youngsters often work for them and it is great to get them into the workplace which gives them something to get up in the morning for.

“But this will be the second McDonald's in town and I would hate to think they would close the other one and leave another empty unit.

“I would like to see more healthy food outlets in the town but I do hope it can be successful for the town.”

Enjoying a drop of red.
I dont understand why another McDonalds in needed in the town?

why not diversify a little? perhaps a Taccobell? or something different?
They obviously think there's a demand and, let's face it, McDonalds have a pretty sound business plan which has had a measure of success over the years.

Am sitting in the brand new Coffee #1 opposite NAT West, the unit that has been boarded for weeks! Mystery over. Impressed. Free coffee (any drink) today, official opening tomorrow. Very busy, no surprise if it's free. Had to buy a Super Dark Chocolate Triangle (Vegan, only non dairy desert, but not surprised', though do have Soya Milk! :) )

Open till four, come on down see what you think!

Super DC Triangle was lovely! £2.35 for a smallish portion, not bad value imho! ;)

Is that where Bella Italia used to be?

Also...what if I wanted my super dark chocolate to be non vegan and I was allergic to soya milk? or had a concern over the miss treatment of a soya bean during its processing?

Wasn't there a rumour that greengate mac d may be closing?

Not seen or heard that anywhere and I understand they signed a 15 year lease for greengate towards the end of 2017.

It wouldn't make sense to get rid of greengate, not only are they at the busier south end of town but have the college kids as well.

Queues out the door almost every lunch. I do not think north walls is capable of servicing the whole town.

The impact will likely be on bristol street side of things as a drive through (franchise?). But the area may sustain 3, I think Lichfield does. We have 3 greggs within a shorter radius after all

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Have the plans for one at The Hough been abandoned?
Dunno but I've been told that a McDonalds is going to be built next to the new drive-through Costa and the Knot & Plough on Weston Road.
