Stafford Cinema - ups & downs.

I remember coming back from one of my frequent excursions 'elsewhere' to find that the Picture House had gorn. I was quite certain that i could have made it work, but was young&foolish. Actually, working on a 'make-a-living' rather than an 'i'm-gonna-be-rich', basis i think i had a workable plan for it.

If i get even drunker than i now am, i might even reveal my 'business plan' - don't hold your breath, because i can seriously hold my drink.

If i had the same 'give-a-shit' levels now, that's - "wall to wall Ealing comedies" - exactly what i'd be doing.

Stafford is 'grey pound' sensitive - they're the only feckers with 'disposable'.

Tumbling out of the Sun and Floodgate, and further afield if it 'took hold', for a late-night showing of Passport to Pimlico, etc would make much money.

Factor in a regular - once a month? - subtitled sing-along to The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the same Floodgate ethic of JAM today would pay its way.

In another era the building would almost certainly have become a live music venue.

Keep on drinking

I will use the new cinema rather than the old one even if it is more expensive. Why? Because the seating will be more comfortable. Spending 2-3 hours in uncomfortable and cramped seating in the old cinema just does not appeal.

Possibly Stafford could continue this trend and use the historic library as a library and the historic Shire Hall as a shire hall?

Whatever, here's hoping the new operator of the 'odeon' knows what he's doing. AJH looks to be a new company, and the offshore mob behind the new 76 screen facility won't be happy if a reborncinema makes even a tiny dent in their bank balance (or our balance, as the project was financed by the council).

My guessing it's that the old cinema won't be showing new releases and will more likely be showing much older releases or stuff from a blu ray projected, like what the previous owners did on occasions....

I'm not really a cinema person, I haven't been in one this century, but I would say that the programme would override the seating/decor to a large extent. I was in the Odeon twice in the 90s and I don't remember any sense of torture from the seats. The MET Studio, on the other hand, is a bit of a struggle for me..

The seating area The MET is awful, but I still go if the show is interesting. Was there last night, and again on Tuesday.

I think the uproar over the cinema, mostly on FB but a bit on here, epitomises Stafford. Don't want a building empty, but god forbid anyone opening it up and giving it a go if it's not exactly what you want.

See, I'll just make a judgment call on what's showing what, at times I can go see it.
Comfort means a lot to me when I’m watching a film. It’s why I used other cinemas instead of Stafford before it closed.

I hope it is a success and it keeps the building open and employs some people

BUT

Does anyone else find it not too promising that the recruitment posters are scrawled onto A4 pieces of paper and look more of a scam trier poster than those for an up and coming new business?

Who doesn't have access to a computer and printer now a days.
