Great to see, as I was riding on the Isabel Trail today that between the cemetery and near Sainsbury's is littered with plastic bottles. Perhaps the organisers could pick up their mess and not be litter leaving scumbags?
I wasnt aware there was a water point there as it's towards the end of the race. They had a massive rubble sack for the water being handed out by the Crossings....

Report it to Street scene. They can pass the bill of cleanup on to the organiser if they refuse to do the right thing and clean up after themselves.

Enjoying a drop of red.

Have done. I expect the taxpayer will end up subsidising the organizers though...

There's two rubble sacks full there plus bottles strewn everwhere, so there must have been.

Completely unnecessary and maybe you should get off your high horse, heaven's forbid folk and organisers enjoy an event.

Same every year, it gets complained on here every year, it gets cleaned up every year no big deal.......just not when moaning do gooders think it should.

I haven't criticized the runners have I? Perhaps you could point to where I have?

I have criticized the organizers though and if you don't like that then tough shit. They've had over 24 hours to clean up their mess but have chosen not to. Scumbags is what they are, the place looks an absolute disgrace.

This is the first year it's been organised by an outside contractor, I think, so maybe litter isn't top of the agenda after the event?

My daughter was Ill during the night so we called 111 who booked an appointment at the hospital for 1040 which we had to reschedule for later because we couldn't drive from Wildwood to Weston road! The website showed that Lichfield would have been open driving to town but it wasn't. I contacted the organisers for a alternative route to the hospital! I'm still waiting for a reply now!

It's disappointng that the organizers have so little consideration for those who don't enjoy running.

I can not think of a single reason all the plastic bottles that are all ove rthe ground on "The Lines" could not have been picked up on the day. Just inconsideration for other human beings really

Well it should be.

Littering is a total blight on society.

Organising an event means taking lots of things into account and clearing up after yourself should definitely be on the agenda.

They surely have enough volunteers. How long would it have taken half a dozen of them to retrace the route and clear up?

Read the article below if you think that littering doesn’t have an effect.

A couple of weekends ago, together with a small group of like-minded idiot mates, I took part in the Paris - Roubaix sportive, the day before the pros got their chance. I can assure you that over the route we/all those taking part left quite a lot of litter in our wake like bottles, gel wrappers, empty chip wrappers etc.

Yet when we returned at 5.30am the following day to secure our vantage point to see the pros do it properly, all the litter had gone.

Immediately after the pro race a couple of course trucks with litter pickers followed and within 30 minutes of the riders passing by, no evidence of their presence was left. Also spectators help with clearing up because we value these races and don't want locals objecting that they're ruining their, often lovely, rural areas. It's the same with the TDF.

Go round the London marathon route an hour or so after the last runner has passed and you won't find any litter either.

So it can be done, it's just that the Stafford organisers can't be arsed.

Odd that in other areas like the Crossings the bottles etc have been collected. Maybe it was an oversight and should it get reported back to the powers that be then they will realise it was missed ?

Part of me thinks that as it was the first "Half" since Freedom Leisure picked up the contract from the council that the existing suppliers would of already been in place....

Still there today and blown out of the bag, perilously close to going into the waterways around Doxey.

Then there's the never ending trail of energy gel wrappers along Beaconside. Those won't get picked up as they'll blow around.

I like to enjoy Staffords trails and those Cannock Chase and would never drop any litter.

Appears to be cleaned up now. I'd be interested in knowing if the taxpayer had to pay for the cleanup or the organisers.

My husband had a similar problem trying to get to the train station so he could get into work. He spoke to one of the marshalls and explained he needed to cross the road so he could get a train and was basically told tough. The Marshall soon changed his mind when hubby pointed out that if he wasn’t able to get into work the company would be fined £10K and they’d be passing the bill on to the organisers (and no, he wasn’t exaggerating)

Hope your daughter is better now.

A year or two ago, Sandon Road was closed totally at Charnley Road, by Severn Trent digging it up again, when the top of the road at Beaconside was closed for the race. The only vehicular access for the duration was the single lane available between the parked cars up the middle of Oxford Gardens.
