How come you can sit outside here but not No.7?
No 7 suffered an objection from the cops about access to Martin's Lane for emergency vehicles - at a time when it was obstructed by scaffolding...

They might struggle to blame Slaters for the obstruction of Gaolgate Street.

And the Bell End next door are now allowing beers out front.

Thought they always had. I sat outside there a couple of times last summer.

Not sure how long they've allowed drinking out front but it was certainly banned as was smoking when they first opened.

I once got into an argument with a doorman who tried to stop me smoking and wouldn't accept that I was actually standing on a public right of way and not Wetherspoon's property.

Really loving Slaters bar. Great atmosphere with the live music on Saturday night and nice and chilled on Sunday afternoon for a couple.
Very good beer selection with more to come including some keg ales I was informed.
A good touch with the Freedom lager and Kingstone press fruit cider (Shirley loved it) to cater for non ale lovers. Loads of gins too!!
Excellent addition to the town!

We had the same objection after an application for chairs and tables on the wider pavement to the front of our site.

One may suggest it is because certain people do not shake hands with the appropriate gentlemen in the appropriate manner.

To he honest if there turned number 7 they are going to turn you down unfortunately.

It is tight in that area so I can see why the refusal. That said would it have happened without the police input

I was under the impression people would move out of the way for an emergency, and the emergency services.

Mind you, i've tried to give people the benefit of the doubt before and believe all folk are capable of consideration, that said, i've been proven wrong in that instance over and over again.

The photos used to support the fact they couldn't block the entrance were of the entrance completely blocked by scaffolding. Scaffolding can't move out of the way, so apparently blocking it for a week or two is fine but temporarily for a few hours is not.
