Thoughts are welcomed on this please.

I have over 15 years experience in the building merchant industry, I was sat there day dreaming at work the other thinking would people who are doing building work trying to find the cheapest deal look at paying someone a small fee to take the hassle out of finding them the best deal around? In light of recent cowboys that have sprung up would people be interested in sort of thing?

I can read plans and do take offs from them giving a schedule of works. Where I am working at present I don't do this as much and I would be looking to keep my skills on this relatively fresh.

Yes definitely!

From a consumers point of view I’m totally reliant on word of mouth, this is very hit & miss and can end up expensive. We had our bathroom completely renovated a few years ago and it looks completely amateur and found out from having to pay lots of money to fix things the total bodge work and potential structural damage. Our kitchen when completely renovated by someone else can hardly be faulted. We’ve had some excellent plastering done by youngsters and really bad plastering done by expensive experienced people.

So yes I would use this but only if it meant that this included vetting of quality and reliability of the workers, examples of work & not just cost.

If I was having some work done then this would be of interest depending upon the complexity of the work.

Another aspect to offer is the quality of materials and workmanship as I think Darben is implying. It isn't just a matter of cost to some customers.

It would be worth being wary of any liabilities if your recommendations were found to be incorrect.

Good luck if you go ahead with the idea.
