Don't diss The Railway, nothing wrong with it :)
I'm not dissing it, simply saying that the last time I was in The Railway I found it very, very disappointing. That was five or so years ago though. So it must have improved A LOT in order to get a recommendation.

I'd forgotten all about the Railway...probably changed a lot in the 40 years since I last visited (OMG Am I really that old?:o)

Just one tiny ,tiny thing I would mention about the Brasserie in The Swan.....we had to ask each visit for the butter for the bread rolls, and mint sauce for the lamb as the waiter quickly darted off without offering any. First time we thought they had just forgotten, but seems the norm not to ask if you require them. No big deal as when we grabbed another waiter as they passed the table they were brought quickly from a covered tray on the side, but thought in a good place like that they would be offered instead of having to ask specially for them.

I get why people associate me with the word brassiere, but I think you'll find in the Swan, it is Brasserie!! :)

My grandparents lived opposite the Railway pub for a number of years so I spent a lot of my time in that pub. Every family gathering / party was held at the Railway or Tavern. Lots of fond memories.

I recently went to the pub after a 10 year absence on the night before my grandmothers funeral. The pub had hardly changed in those 10 years - maybe a lick of paint in the snug and a few new light bulbs.

I think they're still Queenie's aren't they?

The Crown and The Monarch are quite seperate tings

The Crown has never been the King or Queen of England since the establishment of the corporate body, but the British Monarchy is a figurehead for The Crown, rules parliament in Great Britain and has authority over the Prime Ministers through a Vatican knighthood called the Order of the Garter. The Crown, however, is not the King or Queen of England – they are an established monarchy of the corporate body.

The Crown is the directorate of the corporation, and Great Britain is ruled by The Crown, the City of London which controls the Bank of England – a private corporation. There is a private state existing in Britain within the centre of London. This City, located in the heart of Greater London, became a sovereign-state in 1694 when King William III of Orange privatised the Bank of England, and turned it over to the Vatican

The City/The Crown Corporation is not subject to British Law; it has its own courts, its own laws, its own flag, its own police force – exactly like the Vatican city state and Washington DC Columbia. The Crown Corporation is also separate from the Metropolitan city; its police drive red police cars and their uniforms are different from the Metropolitan Police.

Also, The Crown in London houses the privatised Bank of England

The Bank of England is in fact owned by a family

Not the Royal family

Or a family of Swans
