Rising Brook runners ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/rbr...eoeeRzGZfL7mQsKer5618XSnsucqwknpnR1WdJqVYcqQc )
have started another absolute begineers running course. I went last night and it was lovely!

It's a 9 week course to get us from beginners up to be proper runner. At the end of 9 weeks we can join a more advanced group within the club appropriate to our level. Last night began with run a minute and then walk 90 secs, repeated 8 times. What I really liked was that they really did allow everyone to go at their own pace, enjoyment seems more important than speed :)

If anyone is thinking of getting fit then I really recommend this little course. Training is 3 times a week, Mon, Wed & Sat at 3 differing locations.

I don't know all the details but might be able to help if others have questions...

There was a 45-minute programme on yesterday morning on BBC1 at 9:15, presented by Angela Rippon. It focussed on damage to knees etc caused by running, but I think the overall view was that the risk was minimal and some level of running was "a good thing" and to be recommended.

I'm afraid I was never that keen on just running. I always needed a football to chase, or more correctly an opposition player with the football to chase.

I was always a team sport person as well, but they need a level of fitness I can only aspire to currently so running it is for now! Went to my second sessions yesterday and still have no aches so all good so far! Next stop 9am Saturday! Does seem rather early but the weather is beautiful so be lovely to be out and enjoying the day!

I'm really interested in this @kyoto49 Am I too late to start?

Have the beginners already advanced to a stage that's out of my comfort zone already? I need to start from scratch.

Definitely not too late I don't think @wildwood ! It's a 9 week course, 3 times a week and we're only on week 1! Next session is Saturday 9am start at Castlefields carpark and we'll be doing 8 repetitions of run 1 minute, walk 90 seconds! Sure you'll be very welcome!

Well I made it through the first 2 weeks! Week 3 will see us do 6 repetitions of run 3 mins and walk 1. Im loving it to be honest. Lovely people and the running is great for me both physically and mentally. Highly recommended :)

Well we've got up to 3 repetitions of 10 min run, walk 1 minute, so I consider we're running as good as for 30 mins, doing 3 miles already! So proud as I've never been a runner. Made some nice friends as well and have now eneterd the County Showground relays (2 mile each) and 5K parkrun on the Chase. Who'd a thunk it :D

Stafford Harriers are doing something similar....

I started last January and did the NHS couch to 5k podcasts... Very easy to follow... I'm doing all sorts of runs now and will be doing my first half marathon (Black Country) in July...

I think it's quite a common way of beginning running. Amazing how fast one can start to feel like a proper runner!!

Good stuff... I've not entered the relays as I've got plenty of other races booked...
The Chase parkrun is good.... So much better running in groups than on your own....

If you've joined a club such as Rising Brook Runners @kyoto49 and have English Athletics membership then you'll get assigned a handicap which tracks based on how you do at athletic events such as the Showground relays as well as parkruns...

Made it round without stopping which was my goal. Time around 36 mins. Longest I've ever run continuously in my long life!! Had lots of fun but need to train more on hills me thinks!

Great evening at the Showground for the relays last night. Nearly 1400 runners taking part. I did my usual thing of going out far too fast and tried to hold on for grim death towards the end. I'll never learn....3 weeks now until the Black Country Half....

Agreed, we had a great time as well! After only 8 weeks of running I did the 2 miles in 18 mins. Not super fast but I was very pleased with that for a first go :)
