Got roped into a second visit today - Guinness was almost as good as Tuesday's - food was perfect - I don't really care much about decor in general, but I would probably be disappointed if they changed it much, as would the majority of the clientele, I suspect

Can we take it you won't be going back?

None of the 6 of us will. Food was clearly frozen food, nothing seasoned, 20 tiny tinned peas chips very sizeable if undercooked, chicken absolutely swimming a white sauce for one us.

Had big hopes for this place on the reviews but the girls were put off by the dirty looking carpet coming into the conservatory at the back gave it a grimy look.

Wanted to love it ( plus it was my idea to go) but food in my opinion was 2 for 1 standard like darlaston inn/ former seven star types. Old couple on table next to us were not impressed either.

Though for a tuesday it was doing steady business. Whether it was a bad round for our table lord knows, and felt place lacked love, a real shame.

Purely in the interests of data gathering on behalf of the Forum, I managed to force myself to have the Chicken in white wine sauce today.

I didn't complete my counting of the peas, but there was a lot more than twenty.

There was, indeed, a plentiful amount of white wine sauce, possibly due to the considerable amount of chicken that was in it.

The quantity of the sauce seems to have been accurately gauged as there was none of it, or anything else, left at the end.

And did the Guinness go well with the chicken?

Utter perfection!

Not only did I pick a Liver & Onions day, but I also seem to have timed it to arrive at the point where "There's not much point keeping these extra few bits for tomorrow" seems to have been reached.

And all this to a background of Fleetwood Mac being played at a sensible level.

Little to give away that it wasn't forty years ago, apart from the style of the glass, the fact that the chalkboard wasn't written with an actual stick of chalk and the dormant thermoelectric fan on the unlit stove.

There was a small downside - I spent ten seconds looking for the choke knob when I got back in the car.

I got arrested for a similar thing whilst parked by the War Cemetery on the chase.

My barrister got the case cleared on appeal.

That's all well and good but, for God's sake man, tell us how many peas were on your plate!
